- Yamaguchi Prefecture Shimonoseki City Shimonoseki
- A bridge connecting Shimonoseki City in Yamaguchi Prefecture to the island of Tsunoshima. The bridge is also one of the longest non-toll bridges connecting to an isolated island in Japan. The bridge stretching across the emerald green Amagase sea is lovely, and the area is a popular filming location for television shows and commercials. The expansive view, seemingly out of a country other than Japan, is visited by large numbers of tourists year-round. Note that photography is prohibited in the emergency parking zone in the center of the bridge.

- Yamaguchi Shimonoseki-shi Hohokucho Tsunoshima 2343-2
- The lighthouse was designed in 1876 as the first large lighthouse on the Sea of Japan side, and the view from the top of the narrow spiral staircase is spectacular, almost tropical. Many tourists enjoy driving along the Kakunoshima Ohashi Bridge with this lighthouse as their destination.

- Kaikyo Yume Tower
- Travel / Tourism
- Yamaguchi Pref. Shimonosekishi Buzendachou 3-3-1
- Opened in 1996, the 153-meter-high Kaikyo Yume Tower is an important landmark of the Kanmon Straits. The Tower is the central building of the Yamaguchi International Trade & Cultural Center (also known as “Kaikyo Messe Shimonoseki”) in Shimonoseki City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. From the observatory, at a height of 143 meters, visitors can look down on the Kanmon Straits (between Honshu and Kyushu), and along the coast from Ganryu-jima Island across to Hibikinada on the Kyushu side of the Straits. The sight of the sun going down behind Hibikinada, and the nightscape, are very romantic, and the Tower is also illuminated at nighttime. The Kaikyo Yume Tower is renowned as a “Sanctuary for Lovers,” and couples account for many of the visitors to the Tower.

- Yamaguchi Pref. Shimonosekishi Choufukuromonhigashimachi 8-11
- This is a garden in Shimonoseki City. It is the site of the residence of Nishi Yukinaga, one of the chief vassals of the Chofu Mori Domain. The study building, the tea house and Japanese-style gazebo remain set around the pond at the center. The warehouses scattered around the garden are now shops that sell famous confectionery of Shimonoseki and accessories, as well as exhibit and sell art, and offer tourist information. Visitors are able to freely explore the large garden while enjoying the nature.

- Fukuoka Kitakyushu-shi Moji-ku , Yamaguchi Shimonoseki-shi
- This massive 1068-meter-long overwater bridge connects Honshu and Kyushu. The bridge, which is part of the Kyushu Expressway, passes over the Kanmon Strait and only be crossed by car. At the time the bridge opened in 1973 it was called the longest bridge in the orient. The best places to view the bridge the Dannoura P.A. on the Honshu side and the Mekari P.A. on the Kyushu side. The Mekari P.A. has an observation deck that offers views of not just of the bridge but also Dannoura and Shimonoseki City. The sight of the bridge illuminated at night combined with the nighttime view of the city is particularly scenic.

Yamaguchi Areas
Heading west along Japan’s largest island, Honshu, the very last prefecture you’ll reach is Yamaguchi, separated from Kyushu by a small strip of water known as the Kanmon Straits, which the far-reaching harbor city Shimonoseki looks over. With water at every turn, the seafood of Yamaguchi is an indisputable highlight, and we’re not talking just the usual fish dishes - the notorious fugu, or puffer fish, is a Japanese delicacy that was discovered in Yamaguchi prefecture, making it the best place to try it out.
