Chofu Garden

Garden

This is a garden in Shimonoseki City. It is the site of the residence of Nishi Yukinaga, one of the chief vassals of the Chofu Mori Domain. The study building, the tea house and Japanese-style gazebo remain set around the pond at the center. The warehouses scattered around the garden are now shops that sell famous confectionery of Shimonoseki and accessories, as well as exhibit and sell art, and offer tourist information. Visitors are able to freely explore the large garden while enjoying the nature.

Reviewed:2017/11/20 If you are to see autumn leaves in Shimonoseki now, this is the right place.
We visited Chofu Teien(garden) yesterday(Nov 19). Autumn leaves are beautiful now! You should not miss the beauty in the Japanese garden when the leaves are red. Some of the pictures I took may...

Heading west along Japan’s largest island, Honshu, the very last prefecture you’ll reach is Yamaguchi, separated from Kyushu by a small strip of water known as the Kanmon Straits, which the far-reaching harbor city Shimonoseki looks over. With water at every turn, the seafood of Yamaguchi is an indisputable highlight, and we’re not talking just the usual fish dishes—the notorious fugu, or puffer fish, is a Japanese delicacy that was discovered in Yamaguchi prefecture, making it the best place to try it out.
