  • Onaruto Bridge
    Travel / Tourism
From Hyogo ken Minami-Awaji-shi to Tokushima ken Naruto city
"This suspension bridge at the narrowest part of the Naruto Strait connects Minami-Awaji City, Hyogo Prefecture to Naruto City, Tokushima Prefecture. A key transportation link for the Shikoku and Kinki regions, it is used as one of the Honshu-Shikoku connection bridges for the Kobe-Awaji-Naruto Expressway. Known as a tourist destination in Tokushima Prefecture, Uzunomichi (an approximately 450 meter promenade installed under the bridge girders) is appealing because you can see the whirling currents of Naruto under your feet and the scenery of the Naruto Strait. In addition, chosen as one of Japan's top 100 roads, the bridge appeared almost every day on an old local television program called ""Ohayo Tokushima""."
  • Minami Awaji Suisen Line
    Travel / Tourism
    Hyogo
The nickname for Prefectural Route 76 connecting Minamiawaji City and Sumoto City. On clear days, visitors can take in beautiful ocean and blue sky. Following the southern coast of Awaji Island, there are few human-built structures along the road, and drivers and cyclists can enjoy cruising along virtually unhindered by anyone else. Few vehicles travel along the road, as well, and thus many like to stop along the side of the road to take in a view of the sea. In addition, tourist destinations dot the road such as the Nada-Kuroiwa Narcissus Field, a field of some five million wild daffodils rustling in the wind; and the Awaji Island Monkey Center, where you can see wild monkeys up close.
  • Marriage Proposal Road
    Travel / Tourism
    Hyogo Minami-awaji-shi Matsuhokeino
Located about 10 minutes from the Nishidan Mihara IC on the Kobe-Awaji Naruto Expressway via Prefectural Route 126, this 1.5-kilometer-long promenade in Keino Matsubara in the southwestern part of Awaji Island is said to be a famous place for marriage proposals where the blue sea, white sand, green pine trees and the setting sun create a romantic atmosphere. On February 14, a "Proposal Tile Contest" is held every year, in which visitors can make a proposal using tiles made in the previous year.

Hyogo Areas

around-area-map

Hyogo prefecture stretches from the north coast to the south coast on the western end of the popular Kansai region, encompassing verdant mountains, urban beaches, and fantastic historical sights. The prefecture’s main attractions lie along the south coast at Kobe, the prefectural capital, a pretty harbor city best known for its production of the renowned Kobe beef, and Himeji, the home of Himeji Castle, one of the country’s most beautifully preserved feudal castles, perched magically atop a hill.
