Umi Hozuki is a tourist facility operated by the town of Hamajima in Shima City, Mie Prefecture, where visitors can have a go at beach combing and experience the life, culture and fishing industry of this fishing community. You can catch sea creatures like fish and starfish with your bare hands in the man-made seashore called Wanpakuiso where visitors can observe the rise and fall of the tides. Visitors can also have a go at making local dishes using Japanese spiny lobster and skipjack tuna. Other popular things to do include learning experiences related to the sea and making dried fish. There is so much to do here making it a great place for children and adults to learn and have fun.

Spread across the eastern side of the Kii Peninsula, Mie prefecture boasts hundreds of kilometers of pretty coastline comprising the oyster-rich Toba city and Shima National Park all the way down to Kumano, a city that marks the beginning of part of the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage, which runs into neighboring Wakayama prefecture. However, Mie is best known for the Ise Jingu Shinto shrine inland, one of the oldest and largest shrines in the country.
