Resort Kumano Club is hidden away about a 15-minute drive from JR Kumano-shi Station. It has several kinds of outdoor hot spring baths where visitors can bathe in the open air in hot water from Shin Yunokuchi Onsen, whether they are on a day trip or stay overnight. Since the resort has left the natural environment as unchanged as possible, guests can escape their everyday lives for a while amidst the fields and forests of Kumano. The use of Kumano cedar in building the guest rooms creates a soothing atmosphere, and visitors can relax in a luxurious way that is possible only in the countryside. There are four types of guestrooms, all of them suites, all of them built to afford a view of Kumano's natural environment. The resort also takes great care with its meals, and guests can enjoy fine cuisine that makes use of the natural bounty and ingredients of Kumano.

Nice resort in Kumano that I would recommend if you are walking the Kumano Kodo (trail): Pro: - beautiful hotel ground - some staff speaks English very well, actually saw non-Japanese staff there...

Onigajo, meaning “the Ogre’s Castle,” is a picturesque coastal area which has been selected as one of the 100 most beautiful in Japan. Legend has it that in the early Heian period, a pirate named Tagamaru, who was so fearsome he was thought to be an ogre, made his fortress here. It is said that Sakanoue no Tamuramaro later defeated the pirate. The area was designated a National Natural Monument in 1935 and registered as part of the Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range World Heritage site in 2004. The nearby Onigahara Center commercial facility has restaurants, travel information, and a shop selling local specialties.

Owase-jinja Shrine is located five minutes by car from the Owase-Kita Interchange on the Kisei Highway. Susa-no-o-no-Mikoto is its enshrined deity, and it is the only shrine in Owase that has such a long history. According to tradition, it was founded in the Taiho period (701-703), and it is said that many warriors came to pray for victory during the Warring States period. Every year, a festival called Yaya Matsuri, a festival principally for young men, is held on Old New Year, February 1 to 5, and it is considered one of Japan's many strange festivals. Two large camphor trees that stand within the precincts are considered husband and wife trees, and are said to be more than a thousand years old. They have been designated prefectural natural monuments.

The whole coastline nearby used to be considered a Natural Monument known as “Onigajo,” but in 1958, it along with Shishi Iwa was designated a place of beauty and rebranded as the Natural Monument “Onigajo and Shishi Iwa.” In July 2004, it was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the “Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range.”
