The largest inhabited island in Ago Bay, it is the base for sightseeing in Oku-Shima. The location of the Ise-Shima Summit, there is also a memorial hall to the summit on the second floor of the Kintetsu Railway Shima Line's Kashikojima Station. It is recommended to enjoy an elegant and comfortable 50-minute cruise on the Esperanza, a cruise ship with a pirate ship motif. It stops at a cultured pearl factory midway, and you can purchase pearls and watch as they place pearl nuclei into pearl oysters. In Shima Marine Land, an aquarium made in the image of ancient ammonites, the large sunfish, penguin petting and red garra (doctor fish) are popular.
  • Ago Bay

    Mie Pref. Shimashi Daiouchounakiri 2199
"Ago-wan is a famous bay located on a ria coast with many inlets, in the southern part of the Shima Peninsula in Shima City, Mie Prefecture. Local specialty seafood products include the delicacy called Miru (seaweed), Asari short-necked clam and Iwagaki oyster. There is also a thriving pearl cultivation industry, using the Akoya pearl oyster; during the early years of the Showa period (1926-1989) when cultured pearl techniques were adopted here, this area became known as ""Pearl Bay."" Many islands can be seen in Ago Bay, including Kashiko Island, which was the venue for the 42nd G7 Summit (the ""Ise-Shima Summit"") in 2016. From the observation platforms on Mt. Tomoyama and Mt. Yokoyama, visitors can enjoy some really photogenic scenery."

There are colonies of black pine trees near the beach, and you can enjoy the rich landscape of the marine blue ocean, white sand and pine forest. Because it is facing the Pacific Ocean, the waves are relatively high, and the beach is visited year-round by surfers. Several beach houses are open 9:00 to 17:00 from early July to late August. Spread across the eastern side of the Kii Peninsula, Mie prefecture boasts hundreds of kilometers of pretty coastline comprising the oyster-rich Toba city and Shima National Park all the way down to Kumano, a city that marks the beginning of part of the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage, which runs into neighboring Wakayama prefecture. However, Mie is best known for the Ise Jingu Shinto shrine inland, one of the oldest and largest shrines in the country.
