Aichi Pref. Nagoyashi Higashi-ku Shirakabe 1-3
This public archives building built in 1922 was used as the site for the former courthouse, and in addition to exhibiting materials concerning Nagoya’s municipal government, items connected to the courthouse are regularly on display. Inside the spectacular Neo-Baroque-style building made of brick and granite sights such as the stairwell with its beautiful stained-glass windows and the magnificent restored conference hall are not to be missed. Visitors can also tour a reproduced courtroom under the old Meiji Constitution and a prisoner lock-up area. The guided tours of the building provided by the staff are also popular. The building is a five-minute walk from Higashi Ote Station on the Meitetsu Seto Line.

Entrance is free. When you step inside, you would be greeted by the Neo Baroque Space central staircase. Fascinating. Saw a couple taking their wedding photos with this staircase as the background...

Aichi Areas

around-area-map

Aichi is a prefecture of great natural beauty with Nagoya city at its heart, a busy hub home to a labyrinth of underground shops and the 17th-century Nagoya Castle. Castles are easy to find in this history-rich prefecture, but the highlight for history buffs has to be the Museum Meiji-mura, where preserved buildings from the turn of the 20th century are displayed in all their grandeur in an outdoor museum.
