    A facility located in the almost exact center of Ouchi-juku a 15 minute drive by car from Yunokami-Onsen Station which contains presents the lifestyle lived in the area during Japan’s era of post station towns. Ouchi-juku’s honjin, or troop headquarters, was one of the strongholds along the Shimotsuke Kaido highway built in the early Edo period, and was used by the lords of Aizu Domain when travelling to and from the capital of Edo. This honjin was remodeled into the Ouchi-Juku Pavilion. The hall provides information on areas as such as the lord’s exclusive entranceway, jodan-no-ma raised floor room, bath, and thatched roof, as well as exhibits presenting the tools and other items people once used here as part of everyday life. In addition, firewood is continually lighting in the building’s traditional sunken hearth year-round as part of measures necessary to keep the thatch roof in good working order.

    大内宿の問屋本陣を復元した建物でちょっとした資料館になっています。 規模は小さいですが、大内宿のことがいろいろと回折されていますので、取り敢えず最初に行くといいと思います。

    Fukushima Iwaki-shi Ohisamachi

    化石発掘体験前に30分間のレクチャーがある。そんなのいらないから早く掘らせろと思う方、ノンノン、実はここに深い意味がある。壮大なロマンのある話を聞いてからでないと、とても60分間の地味な発掘作業に耐えられない。巨大アンモナイトが出てくるかもしれないと思うからこそ、長時間の岩砕きも我慢できる。ちなみに今回は、家族4人でせっせと穴掘りをしたものの、アンモナイトはついに出てこなかった。

    A museum in the heart of the Hongo district of Aizumisato Town. Located on the second floor of the Aizumisato Town Hongo Information Center they have pieces of Aizu-hongo ware on display which boasts a history of nearly 400 years. Seto-machi, which still retains its Showa period appearance, is a production center of pottery and was said to be home to over 100 pottery studios during its heyday. The beginnings stem from an order given by Gamo Ujisato, the lord of Aizuwakamatsu Castle, to create new tiles as part of castle repairs. The museum is free to enter and contains nearly 100 pieces of pottery and porcelain with creation dates ranging from the feudal period to modern day. The rest area on the first floor has pieces by modern kilns on display allowing you to learn the history of Aizu-hongo ware and compare it with the modern creations.

    This museum introduces the history and way of life of Hinoemata Village as well as the nature of Oze. The first-floor features exhibits including hunting equipment, old folk crafts, wooden products, costumes used in the village's kabuki theater performances, and taxidermy animal specimens. The second-floor features exhibits such as fishing equipment and everyday articles that teach visitors about the wisdom for everyday life of the people of the past.

It includes materials dating from primeval to ancient times excavated in Shirakawa City and the surrounding region including Jomon pottery, Haji pottery, Sue pottery, and ancient roof tiles. The exhibit also includes ancient documents and artifacts from the middle ages as well as materials from the early modern period related to Komine Castle, its castle town, and its lord Matsudaira Sadanobu.     "This facility in Senganmori Park, Otegamimori, Aoki, Iino-machi, Fukushima City features displays related to UFOs. Iino-machi has long been known as the ""UFO Village"" due to frequent sightings of unusual luminous objects. In addition to their Space Area and Alien Area permanent exhibitions, they also hold screenings of a 3D film on the mysteries of Mt. Senganmori. Other facilities include tennis courts, Japanese style rooms, and a bathing area with a view. Their adjacent UFO Bussankan shop has a cafeteria, too."

    A museum along Uchikanjosen in Toyota-machi, Koriyama City. Their collection includes works by and works related to Koriyama writers including Masao Kume, Yuriko Miyamoto, and Yutaka Mafune. In addition to the permanent exhibition they also hold regular themed exhibitions. Located nearby is the Masao Kume Memorial Hall which is Masao Kume's former Kamakura residence that has been relocated.

    A museum in Sakuradani, Miharu Town, Tamura County. The permanent exhibition centers around the two themes of Miharu of Yesterday and the Miharu of Long Ago. These exhibits include traditional Miharu folk toys including Hariko papier-mache dolls and Miharu Ponies, restored shops and houses and documents from when Miharu flourished as a silk producing region, and even historical documents reaching back to the Jomon Period. Special themed exhibitions are also held and located nearby is the Free Civil Rights Museum.

    A museum on Okurairi Street in Otsubo, Tajima, Minamiaizu Town, Minamiaizu County. On display are materials and exhibits related to the Aizu Tajima Gion Festival, a tradition which stretches back over 800 years. A special portable shrine that shows the features of the four portable shrines that are used during the festival and a series of dolls showing the procession reproduce the particulars of the festival in realistic fashion. There's also a buffet serving local home cooking using local ingredients, a restaurant serving traditional local cuisine, an a shop.

There is a planned exhibition room, art performance space, literary plaza and small auditorium where he spent his life until 16 years old.     This museum explains the position and history of the Aizu clan during the Meiji Restoration. About 5,000 items are on display, including materials on the Byakkotai and Yae Yamamoto, as well as items related to the Boshin War and women's makeup products from the Edo period (1603-1868). It is located a five-minute walk from the Iimoriyama-shita bus stop, and is a historical museum that tells the history of the Aizu clan, which was sacrificed during the Meiji Restoration. It is possible to get a glimpse of the state of affairs in those days from materials related to the Boshin War, such as armor, furniture, photographs and drawings. A number of women's make-up products such as glittering kimonos, copper mirrors and hairpins from the Edo period are also on display.

    This heritage museum is where you can experience the traditional industries and crafts of Aizu. As an open space for traditional industries and crafts of Aizu, the exhibition and sale of traditional crafts, as well as tourism information are available. It also offers a variety of services, including bicycle rentals. In the second-floor planned exhibition corner, you can freely visit the exhibited traditional industrial products and works. Aizu lacquerware, Aizu cotton and Aizu folk crafts such as picture candles and red Beko cow toys are introduced on the first floor.

    This lacquerware shop was founded in 1832. The warehouses, which were built in conjunction with the Aizu lacquerware industry, are joined by an art museum, experience center and rest area. Many of the buildings with multiple warehouses were built in the Taisho period (1912-1926). Inside these massive warehouses, panel displays about the history of Aizu lacquerware from its beginnings are displayed. It is also possible to see rare tools that are no longer seen today and lacquerware pieces. At the experience center, visitors can try their hand at making Makie lacquerware (using technique to add decorations by scattering powdered gold, etc.), a traditional Japanese craft.

    A museum located in the Omachi district in the center of Miharu Town. The museum occupies two former storehouses and displays traditional local dolls from throughout the Tohoku region with a focus on Miharu Dolls. The storehouses are traditional white walled buildings said to have been built 130 years ago. Around the Rakko Collection, started by the late Nakai Atsushi who was a student at Tohoku University in the early Showa period, you can see clay dolls and Miharu Dolls from the Tohoku region, as well as folk toys from various regions. Their collection includes a number of must-sees, such as staircase cabinets, fusuma paintings, and calligraphy of poem on the Eight Immortals of the Wine Cup.

    This archaeology museum is located at the Kubota Ruins, which was the site of a settlement on the terrace of the Inagawa River from the late Jomon period to the mid Yayoi period. The museum, which was built for the purpose of preserving the historical site, features exhibits including a pit dwelling and earthenware from the Jomon and Yayoi periods. The facility is open from late April to late November and is closed for winter.

Visitors can also try drawing pictures on traditional akabeko cow figures.
  • Aizu-Yonezawa Road Historical Museum

    A historical museum housed in the former Kendan Yashiki, which was built during the Edo Period (1615-1868), rebuilt after the eruption of Mt. Bandai in 1888, and then moved to its present site and remodeled. Its purpose is to present the role played by the Aizu-Yonezawa Highway and the lives of the people who used it and lived alongside it. Exhibits of documents, artifacts, and old photographs outline the story of the former Yonezawa Highway and the woodworkers, mines, and ceremonies associated with it. In addition, there is a diorama of the ruins of the former Hibarajuku, which sank into Lake Hibara after the explosion of Mt. Bandai, and pottery excavated from the bottom of the lake. This facility allows visitors to remember the lifestyles of the earlier inhabitants of the lake area.

    勿来の関公園内にあります。吹風殿を抜けて階段を上がって詩歌の古道に行く前にこちらの歴史館があります。私が行った当日は田部君子展が開催されており、入場料は大人330円でした。
