    This facility preserves and displays invaluable Buddhist imagery and paintings from temples on Mt. Koya, such as the Kongobu-ji temple, the head temple of Shingon Buddhism. Opened in 1921, the museum's collection currently includes some 28 thousand important works of art, including 21 National Treasures, 143 Important Cultural Properties, and 16 Wakayama Prefecturally Designated Cultural Properties. During the extremely popular Great Treasure Hall Exhibition in summer, the museum displays the Eight Great Youths, a sculpture designated a National Treasure that was carved by Unkei, the greatest Buddhist imagery maker of the Kamakura period.

    Koyasan recently celebrated it 1200th anniversary, and some of the treasures in this museum are that old, loaned from some of the 100 monasteries on this mountain. The museum is small and so displays...

    "The terminal station of the Wakayama Electric Railway Kshigawa Line, it is looked after by the honorable permanent station master ""Tama"" who has become a daimyojin (god). Currently, calico cats (three-colored), ""Nitama (Tama II"" and ""Yontama (Tama IV)"" are in charge. The cute-looking catshaped station building is characterized by its great use of natural materials, such as Kishuwoods in the cypress bark roof. It also features ""Tama Cafe"" and ""Tama Shop"" where original goods are sold. The line is said to have been laid for ""Three-Shrine Visits"" to Nichizengu Shrine, Kamayama Shrine, and Itakiso Shrine sitting quietly aside the tracks. And there are unique trains, such as the ""Ichigo(Strawberry) Train"", the ""Omocha(Toys) Train"", and the ""Tama Train"", which have particular about the design of details. Overall, it's a fun local line to ride."

    This facility houses books and other materials that belonged to Kumagusu Minakata, a modern scholar of natural history, theology, and folklore. It is next to the residence he inhabited in his later years in Nakayashiki Town, Tanabe City, Wakayama Prefecture. Inside, you’ll find exhibits that explain his accomplishments, life, the region, and so on. The second floor contains a study and an area where you can read reproduced materials. The copy of Kumagusu’s resume, written on a roll of 7.8 meter-long-paper in fine print, is a must-see. Entry is free, though entry to the adjoining residence requires a fee.

    南方熊楠の博物館ですが、立派なものが白浜町にあるため顕彰館として後でできました。キノコや日本犬などの生物学の研究資料が展示されています。無料の施設です。柳田國男や水木しげるをはじめとした交流の手紙があります。

    This museum is approximately ten minutes on foot from JR Yuasa Station. It occupies a public bath house founded in the Edo Period (1603–1868) in Shimoshincho, part of Yuasa's Important National Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings. The current structure was built in the early Meiji Period (1868–1912), and the locals used it for recreation until it closed in 1985. The town restored it after taking over the property, and it maintains the look of years gone past. The bath house has posters from the Showa Period (1926–1989) and old telephones, and the main hall has a collection of donated stage props on display.

    醤油の町湯浅にあるお風呂屋さん。下新町の小道にあり、建物内部が公開されています。お風呂屋さんじたいも興味深いですが、裏の家屋部分も残されていて、資料館になっています。当時の生活様式も知れることができます。

    This museum was founded in August 1971 for the purpose of displaying and preserving this special historic site, the Iwase-senzuka burial mounds. Over 430 burial mounds dot the vast 65ha grounds, as well as the former estate of the important cultural property, the Taniyama Estate and other cultural property residences. Here one can study the various cultures and lifestyles of historic periods through the archive museum centering on archeology/folklore material exhibition (charged), restored pit dwellings, and the Manyo botanical garden that cultivates plants specifically mentioned in the Manyoshu, the 8th century anthology of Japanese poetry.

    山の斜面にたくさんの古墳があり、1時間程度の散歩コースになっています。古墳の中は発掘された跡で、石を積み上げて作られた内部が見れます。埴輪も多数出ており、博物館で他の和歌山で発掘された瓶や埴輪、装飾品と併せて見学することができます。

    "This museum located about a 10-minute taxi ride from Iwade Station on the JR Wakayama Line is a hub for disseminating the history and culture of Iwade. It features a variety of exhibits including a permanent exhibit, special exhibits, and exhibits by the local Cultural Association. The museum's permanent exhibit, which has a basic theme of ""The Changing Culture and Lifestyles of Iwade City,"" features materials from the Edo period, recreations of life during the Edo period, artifacts excavated in the city, and more. The museum also regularly holds public seminars about Negoro lacquerware."

    岩出の名前の由来を知ることができます。紀ノ川の両岸に突き出た奇岩があり、その名前がついたとのことです。

    "This facility in Minabe Town located in the middle of Wakayama Prefecture showcases the technology, history and culture surrounding binchotan, a high grade of traditional charcoal. Among the most highly produced charcoals in the nation, local Kishu binchotan has a history that reaches back to the Heian period. The museum has a variety of items on display including a xylophone made of binchotan. They sell the charcoal itself, as well as specialty sweets made with it like their “Sumi-aisu"" ice cream. You can also try making wind chimes and bracelets with binchotan if you book ahead. Local elementary schools sometimes visit for field trips too."

    無料で入館でき、備長炭が出来るまでの工程や、その発展の歴史を知ることができます。帰り際、備長炭アイスを買いましたが、炭のジャリジャリ感があり、評価が別れるだろうと思いました。

    This folk museum in Itogacho, Arida City is next to Itoga Inari-jinja Shrine, thought to be the oldest in Japan. It mainly displays items related to the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage route such as the poet Fujiwara no Teika's diary. It also has an area that's a reproduction of the tea house which was once at Itoga Pass, as well as a picture scroll of Fujiwara no Teika's 328-kilometer journey from Kyoto to Kumano. They have facilities like a rest area near the entrance, vending machines, and bathrooms. It's often used for breaks by people walking the Kumano Kodo.

    This museum showcases Arida Mandarin Oranges, a variety known throughout Japan. It's located about five minutes on foot from JR Minoshima Station on the fourth floor of the Arida Culture and Welfare Center. The Arida's history goes back to the Muromachi Period (1336–1573), and you can get a sense of its development through the ancient documents and other materials on display. Accessible illustrations and dioramas give visitors a clear picture of the mandarin growing process. Some of the museum has a fitting mandarin themed interior decor.

    久しぶりに訪ねたところ、展示が変わっていました。テレビと椅子が設置されており、リモコンで、興味のあるタイトルを選択すると、その映像が流れるようになっていました。

    A museum located inside Aridagawa Railway Park in Aridagawa Town, Arida County, Wakayama Prefecture which was built on the grounds of Arida Railway Kanayaguchi Station, a station abolished in 2002. The museum displays dioramas replicating the routes of the Arida Railway and the scenery around Aridagawa, and patrons who bring their own N scale model trains can run them on the tracks. Outside the museum, visitors can view real Kiha 58 and Haimo 180 trains used on the railway up close; the museum also holds events in which the trains are operated and visitors can get on board. A fun destination for children and adults alike.

    This industrial facility is located about a five-minute drive from JR and Kainan Station. It primarily exhibits and sells Kishu lacquerware, which is produced mainly in the Kuroe district. Works of lacquerware are sold and exhibited on the facility's first floor. The second floor features a resource room and gallery that display materials on the lacquering process as well as many works by Kuroe's lacquerware artisans. Makie (lacquerware decoration) experiences in which participants can create their own original work of lacquerware or offered on the third floor every weekend.

    This educational facility is located inside Kishibe no Sato Park, a nature park on the banks of the Kishi River that is about a ten-minute walk from Kishi Station on the Wakayama Electric Railway Kishigawa Line. Visitors can learn about fireflies, something for which Kishigawa Town is famous even within Wakayama Prefecture. Captive-bred firefly larvae are released in the town as part of firefly breeding and conservation effort. It is possible to witness the beauty of genji-botaru (Luciola cruciata) and heike-botaru (Luciola lateralis) in their bamboo grove breeding grounds around June each year.

    "This museum is located a 15-minute drive via Prefectural Route 34 from the Nanki Shirahama Interchange on the Kisei Expressway. As befits its location in Wakayama, ""the land of trees,"" this building, imbued with the scent of natural wood, is made of cedar cypress wood and stands in Heisogen Park, a highland that affords a view of the town of Shirahama. There is an experiential learning stadium that makes use of video, as well as information and materials about onsen (hot springs) all over Japan, the chemical components and effects of Shirahama hot springs, and the history and everyday culture of the area, are displayed in an enjoyable and easily understood way. The tables on the ground floor, made from local Kishu wood, are a place for park visitors to relax."

    This museum can be found by following Prefectural Route 46 to the right from Katsuura Port, and then proceeding in a semicircular fashion along the road. It is operated by Yomigaere! Wakinaka Club, (Revive! Wakinaka Club), which is a group that works to preserve the scenery and culture of Nachi-Katsuura Town, and photography exhibitions that compare the area in the present to the early Showa period are held here.

    This museum facility is operated by the prefectural government. The museum preserves and displays folk cultural items and artefacts excavated from ancient kofun tombs, particular the tombs of the Special Historic Site-designated Iwase Senzuka Ancient Tombs. The exterior of the museum is dressed with crystalline schist, the same stone used to build the tombs in the area. In the museum's standing exhibition, you can view excavated artefacts and explore the history of Wakayama Prefecture and from prehistory to the Middle Ages. The museum's vast grounds are dotted with the tombs of the Iwase Senzuka Ancient Tombs group, and there are walking courses connecting various sites as well as a reconstructed pit dwelling and Important Cultural Property-designated Edo period settlement - visitors can even look inside these buildings and some of the tombs!

    阿須賀神社の境内にある。 入館料は220円だが、訪館時は「新収蔵品展」が行われており入館無料となっていた。1階には鎌倉時代に作られた大威徳明王や阿弥陀如来の懸仏など阿須賀神社に関する品々を、2階には新宮の歴史に関する資料(土器、武具、民具等)を展示。また資料館前には弥生式竪穴住居跡がある。
