    Shizuoka Kosai-shi Araicho Arai 1227-5
It is a 10-minute walk from Niiimachi Station or a 30-minute drive from the Hamamatsu Nishi IC, and is located on the right side of Route 301 west of the Niiimachi Station intersection. Together with the one in Hakone, it played a major role on the Tokaido Highway.

These facilities were created by renovating historical structures located in Kiga, Hosoe Town, Kita Ward, Hamamatsu City. The Kiga Sekisho-which served to monitor cargo and people passing through the Hime Highway during the Edo Period-was rebuilt roughly 600 meters west of its original position. The interior features displays of materials related to the sekisho in the Edo Period.

    天竜浜名湖鉄道の気賀駅の南側で、徒歩数分の距離に位置します。 今年の4月より有料化されました(がっかり・笑)。

    Shizuoka Kosai-shi Araicho Arai 1280-1
A historic site located a twelve-minute walk from Araimachi Station or a 30-minute drive from the Mikkabi Interchange, on the left side of National Route 301 while driving west from the Araimachi-ekimae Intersection. Of the twenty or more old-style inns that existed in Araishuku, this one, a purveyor to the Kishu domain (present-day Wakayama Prefecture) has been rebuilt and is now open to the public as a museum. It was rebuilt early in the Meiji Period, but part of it exhibits construction styles that were common in the Edo Period. The city has designated it a Tangible Cultural Property. This valuable building even offers visitors views of landscapes that have changed little since the old days.

    新居宿関所とセットの入場券が大変お得です。 こちらでは当時の旅籠屋の感じをよく知ることができます。 意外に狭くてビックリしました。 いろいろと勉強させていただいた場所でした。

    Shizuoka Pref. Kosaishi Araichouarai 1227-5
Arai Post Station Museum is just an eight-minute walk from Araimachi Station, or a 30-minute drive from the Hamamatsu-Nishi or Mikkabi Interchanges. This post station was built in 1600 under orders from Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu in 1600, and it is currently a National Special Historical Site. For about 100 years, it was directly controlled by the Edo Shogunate to prevent people from transporting guns and to prevent the wives of feudal lords from leaving Edo. The current building is a reconstruction of the original, which was destroyed in 1971. Visitors who want a tour led by an official guide should make reservations at least ten days ahead of time.

Shizuoka Areas

around-area-map

With the giant Pacific Ocean to the south and the great Mount Fuji to the north, Shizuoka prefecture is blessed with some of the best views the country has to offer. The white sand beaches of the Izu Peninsula are a rare find on mainland Japan, neighbored by beautiful cliffs, tumbling hills, and natural hot springs. As Japan’s largest producer of green tea, the age-old tradition of tea drinking is ubiquitous in Shizuoka, from the miles of tea fields to the old tea houses hosting traditional tea ceremonies.
