  • Taisho Pond

    A pond which reflects the Hotaka Mountain Range, Taisho Pond was formed in 1915 when Mt. Yake experienced a major volcanic eruption. The trees that once grew where the pond is now have withered away and stick up straight out of the pond’s waters; reflecting off the surface, they create a mysterious, magical sight. Taisho Pond is one of the most picturesque spots in Kamikochi.

    "The furthest downstream of the three ""Nishina"" lakes, which includes Lake Aoki and Lake Nakatsuna. The lakeshore area is maintained as a park with walking paths; a comprehensive hot spring bath facility and sports facilities are also located nearby, and the area is a popular destination for conducting sports training camps. Due to its cool climate, the lake area also sees many visitors in summer seeking to escape the heat. The Lake Kizaki Fireworks Show is held in August."

The lake is also a popular kokanee fishing spot."

  • Saigawa Hakucho Lake

    A lake in Toyoshina, Azumino City. A dammed portion of the Saigawa River, it has been known for its swans since 1984 when tundra swans first arrived. There are observation shelters and feeding houses on the lakeside where you can watch the swans, typically from between October and March.

    "A mysterious pond surrounded by beech trees at an elevation of 1,190 meters. Its name comes from its shape that resembles a ""kama,"" or sickle used to cut grass. The pond is popular with photographers for the young leaves of spring and the fall foliage. It has earned its reputation for amazing scenery. The beauty of the clear sky, grand mountains, and colorful leaves reflected in the pond is breathtaking. There is a two-kilometer trail around the pond. With its quiet atmosphere, it's also one of the main courses in the area for ""forest therapy."" Nestled beside the pond, Kamaike Bunarin-tei has pickled vegetables, specialty items, and more. If your timing's right, you can also try some of their cuisine made with mushrooms."
  • Myojin Pond

    This is a sanctuary in the rear shrine of Hotaka-jinja Shrine with a scenic pond which is a symbol of the Japan Alps (Kamikochi) of Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture. The pond was formed when stone and sediment from Mt. Myojin filled a tributary of the Azusa River. It is split into two ponds giving it a pear-like shape, and is a picturesque spot where one can enjoy walking and looking out over the greens of the water’s reflection and the pond’s large stones. Every year on October 8th the Boat Festival is held to pray for safety on the mountain, and one can see the mystical sight of the dragon head boat drifting through the pond surrounded by autumn leaves.
  • Ushidome Pond

    This is a small pond located in the highlands overlooking Mt. Norikura, at an altitude of 1,590 meters. On a sunny day, visitors can see a beautiful mirror image of the blue sky and Mt. Norikura reflected on the surface of the lake, known as a scenic spot. Visitors can enjoy walks, forest bathing and bird watching easily from the promenade in the area.
  • Azami Pond

    A pond located in Norikura Highland in Azumi, Matsumoto City. The pond, 130 meters circumference, is located 600 meters from Nature Plaza Ichinose along the walking path in Norikura Highland Ichinose-enchi. The area around the pond is quiet and surrounded by Japanese white birch and other trees. In late June, visitors might catch sight of the egg sacks of forest green tree frogs.
  • Lake Misuzu (Ashinota Dam)

    An artificial dam lake located in Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture. A renowned fishing spot, in summer visitors can catch Japanese crucian carp and in winter, wakasagi.
