  • Jindai-zakura of Suzakura Shrine

    This Edo-higanzakura cherry blossom tree is the only one in Japan to be designated a National Natural Monument. The huge tree is around nine meters in circumference at the base and is estimated to be 1,200 years old. Each year in spring when it comes into bloom, its beauty delights the eyes of large numbers of visitors. The tree blossoms from late April to early May. Located on the grounds of Suzakura Shrine in Izumidaira, Nagano City, according to legend the tree grew from a cherry wood cane the god Susanoo-no-Mikoto planted on the bank of the pond when he rested here.

    A shopping street located in Nagano Motozen-cho, Nagano City. The shopping street originated from the business activities of street merchants and tachi-dealers that had been conducted in the precincts of Zenkoji Temple since the Middle Ages. After the relocation of Zenkoji Temple's Nyorai-do Hall, merchants began to gather at the vacant lot, and after the Meiji Restoration, their stalls were established as permanent stores. Today, the area is still crowded with visitors to Zenkoji Temple, with a variety of stores ranging from traditional stores to fashionable cafes, including Hachimanya Isogoro, a long-established shichimi (seven spice) shop that is known as a standard Zenkoji Temple souvenir.

    The Zenkoji Temple has been both a Betto head temple and Daikanjin temple since long ago, and this treasure house contains numerous treasures and rare historical materials concerning the temple. Its collection consists of more than three thousand items, of which 150 items are put on display at any given time. Many of the items in the treasure house's collection have been designated Important Cultural Properties, including items connected to the Imperial family, the mighty Tokugawa clan and other notable military clans, and the Rinno-ji Temple.

    Built on the site of Aratojo Castle, the epicenter of the fierce Battle of Kawanakajima fought between Oda Nobunaga and Uesugi Kenshin, here you can get a sense of what mountain castles were like during that time, and the park is visited by a great many tourists from both in and outside the prefecture. From the watchtowers, you can get a sweeping view of such picturesque scenery as the Chikuma River and the Kamiyada Hot Spring area.
  • Saihoji Temple

    It is said that Honen, the founder of the Jodo sect (the first independent branch of Japanese Pure Land Buddhism) who visited Zenkoji Temple in 1199, founded Saihoji Temple. The temple also has a close connection with Tibet when the 14th Dalai Lama visited in 2010. One of the highlights of which was the eye-opening ceremony to the Great Buddha. In the parking lot is an inscription written about the temple by the haiku poet Kobayashi Issa. It is said that the red Jizo statues (stone image of Kshitigarbha, guardian of children) which are not often found in Japan, protect those people having issues with their in-laws. The red color symbolizes protection against evil and the red statue is enshrined here to protect Zenkoji Temple.

    Harayama Bamboo Ware is a Nemagaritake bamboo goods specialty store located in Togakushi Chusha in Nagano City that has been around for over 150 years. They craft and sell bamboo sieves used to serve soba, baskets, and other goods, and they also offer visitors a chance to try making their own bamboo goods at the adjoining workshop.
  • Nihon Chureiden (Zenkoji Temple History Museum)

    This mausoleum is located in the precinct of Zenkoji Temple. It was completed in 1970 as Japan's only Buddhist-style mausoleum, where 2.4 million spirits from the Boshin War to the Pacific War are venerated. In the historical materials museum located on the first floor, you'll find the mandala necessary for the eye-opening ceremony when the Dahli Lama the 14th visited Zenkoji Temple and the original Nio statue of Nio-mon.

    "This museum is on Prefectural Route 404 in Togakushi Tochihara, Nagano City. Among the items on display are fossils of shellfish excavated from the Togakushi Mountain Range, letting visitors learn about the natural history of the Nagano Basin. Housed in a former elementary school building, they also hold various workshops that get visitors up close with the items, including fossil cleaning and ""museum experience"" workshops."
  • Obasute Tourism Hall

    A tourism facility located in Chikuma City, Nagano Prefecture which was recently remodeled in April 2018. The facility is used to exhibit pieces by artists connected to the area and to hold regular events. With the facility's remodeling, window side seats were added from which visitors can enjoy a sweeping view of the Zenkoji Plain. The facility also has a restaurant popularly used by visiting tourists.

A sprawling array of 2,000 fields, the area has been selected as one of Japan's 100 most beautiful terraced rice fields. Popular for its picturesque Zenkoji Plain night view and sunrises, Obasute night view tours are also conducted in the area. Many tourists come here to take in the spectacular view.
