    Tojinbo Tower rises to a height of 100 meters above sea level and 55 meters above the ground, giving spectacular views; its status as the only large observation tower on the Sea of Japan coast has made it very popular. From the second floor level of the Tower, visitors can view the Tojinbo Coast, with its precipitous cliffs (sculpted by the action of the Sea of Japan’s fierce waves) which extend for a length of around one kilometer, as well as Oshima Island and the Echizen Coast; looking the other way, they can see the peaks of Mt. Hakusan. Tojinbo Tower is also famous as a great place for bringing couples closer together. The Tower is located approximately 25-minute drive from the Kanazu Interchange on the Hokuriku Expressway.

    東尋坊の崖が高さ100mありその上に立つタワーが約50mほどあるので、景色はかなり良いです。崖の際からはかなりスリルはありますが、こちらは別の角度で安全に見ることができます。白山の綺麗な姿も見えました。レストランでついでに食事をしましたが、「カニちらし」は味噌汁が付いて美味しくいただきましたが、もう少しボリュームが欲しかったです。

    The Rainbow Line is a toll road with a total length of 11.24 kilometers that extends from Sasada, Mihama Town to Umiyama, Wakasa Town. The road passes between Hiruga Lake and Suigetsu Lake, before climbing up to the summit of Mt. Baijo-dake, where the Rainbow Line Summit Park offers superb views over the Mikatagoko (Mikata Five Lakes). The Summit Park includes an observation deck, restaurants, shops selling local specialty products.

  • Kazurabashi Bridge

    A 12 meter high, 44 meter long rope bridge spanning the Asuwa River in Ikeda Town, Imadate County, Fukui Prefecture. This unusual bridge was made from hardy kiwi and other vine plants. The bridge crossing is a thrilling experience—you can view the swift river below through the large gaps between the bridges footboards. The bridge sways significantly whenever anyone crosses, and even adults will need to dig up some courage to make the journey. The distinct, seasonal beauty of the valley is a must-see. The bridge is closed from early December until the end of March.

    A driving road along Prefectural Route 107 in Obama. It runs from Anojiri up 619 meters to the summing of Mt. Kusuyagadake. From the summit you will have a magnificent view stretching from Wakasa Bay to the Echizen Cape far in the North-East.

    A castle town streetscape dating back to the warring states period, when the Asakura clan ruled over Echizen. The samurai residences used by the Asakura clan and their chief retainers have been rebuilt. This is included as part of the Ichijodani Asakura Family Historic Ruins site. It has been designated as a National Special Historic Site. The houses were restored based on unearthed cornerstones and foundations and give the idea of what houses were like back in that period. They have been used as shooting locations for various commercials. On the grounds is a spot where you can rent and dress in kimono and you can walk the townscape wearing the kimono.

    "Teramachi Avenue is located near the JR Echizen-Ono Station on the JR Kuzuryu (Etsumi-Hoku) Line in the city of Ono in Fukui Prefecture. Ono is known as the ""little Kyoto"" of the Hokuriku region, and its Teramachi (neighborhood with many temples) was built in the Tensho period (1573-1592) as part of Kanemori Nagachika's establishment of a castle town. He laid out the area in a checkerboard pattern in imitation of the layout of Kyoto and set it up with an emphasis on religion, with temples of every sect located in one small area. Zendoji Temple and Daihoji Temple are two of the most prominent of the many temples, shrines, and samurai houses creating a townscape that evokes pre-modern Japan."

    Constructed as a mountain castle by samurai Numata—directly under Shogun Ashikaga—to serve as a strategic stronghold in the Muromachi period, Kumagawa-Juku is now a National Preservation District for Groups of Historic Buildings and has lots to see. It has good views, as a town along “Wakasa Kaido” —one portion of the “Saba Kaido” that goes from Wakasa to Kyoto.

  • Hakogase Bridge (Lake Kuzuryu Yume no Kakehashi)

    With the official name of Hakogase Bridge, this 266 meter bridge spans across Lake Kuzuryu. The autumn leaves season is particularly impressive for the beautiful deep green of the lake’s surface and the colorful leaves of the trees. Why not stop off at the nearby Roadside Station Kuzuryu or Kuzuryu onsen’s (hot spring) Heisei no Yu baths.

    "This rest stop for people taking the Saba Highway opened inside of a renovated old folk home in 2016. Saba Kaido is the collective name for the highways that connect the Reinan region of Fukui Prefecture with Kyoto. It was once the route used to transport seafood to Kyoto. The Saba Highway gained this name relatively recently because of the large amount of salted mackerel (saba) that was carried on the highways. The Izumicho Merchants Alley is marked as the start of the Saba Highway with a plate containing the words ""Kyo wa totemo juhachiri"" (Kyoto is only 18-ri about 44 miles away). The route, which is largely comprised of the Wakasa Highway, has a number of famous places such as the Wakasahime Shrine and the Kumagawa Juku post town. There are also many places along the route where travelers can eat mackerel dishes."

    The original Tsukumo Bridge was famous for its usual half-wood, half-stone construction, with the northern half being made from wood, and the southern half being made from stone. Also known by names such as Kitanosho Ohashi Bridge, the bridge has historical ties to Shibata Katsuie. Built after Katsuie took command of Kitanosho Castle, it survived for 330 years until it was replaced in 1909.

  • Jofukuji Temple Garden

    Fukui Echizen-shi Gobuichicho 11-26
    A garden on the grounds of Jofukuji Temple in Gobuichi-cho, Echizen City. The garden is a Japanese rock garden and uses the natural scenery of the Hino Mountain Range in its design. It was created after the temple was moved to its current location in 1624. Serving as an example of mid Edo period landscaping techniques surviving into the modern era it has been designated as a national place of scenic beauty.

    Located in what is presently Kitahonmachi, Mikuni-cho, Sakai City, this area preserves the historical townscape of the Mikuni Minatomachi port town area that flourished with the Kitamaebune shipping trade routes that crossed the Sea of Japan during the Edo and early Meiji periods. Stroll down the streets lined with shops which sold goods from the ships and townhouses with intricate latticed doors and take in the atmosphere of times past and check out the mini Machi-no-Kura museum and Former Morita Bank Headquarters which is registered as a Tangible Cultural Property of Japan.

    A series of huts in Umiyama, Wakasa Town, Mikatakaminaka County. They were built on the lakeshore of Lake Mikata for agricultural purposes and are used for different occasions such as harvesting plums. Throughout the different seasons you can enjoy the scenery of the traditional grass thatched huts lining the waterside. You can only view the huts from the exterior.

    A street in Katori, Obama-City. It's located within the Obama-Nishigumi neighborhood, which has been designated as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings by the Japanese government. The narrow alley, which was formerly a teahouse district, is lined with buildings with red latticed windows and latticed bay windows, and lets you feel what Obama City was like in the days when it was heavily influenced by the culture of Kyoto. On weekends and holidays, you can also visit the traditional Hotoro restaurant, which was built during the Meiji period.

    An observations deck in the Suizu Parking Area on the southbound side of the Hokuriku Expressway in Suizu, Tsuruga City. A well-known scenic location overlooking Tsuruga Bay there's an anecdote that when Emperor Taisho was riding a train along the former Hokuriku Main Line and was stopped at Suizu Station in this same location he delayed the departure of the train as he was so taken by the view. This is a great place to watch the setting sun sink below the horizon and there's also a Lover's Heart Lock installation where you can attach a padlock to swear your love.

    A street in Tsuruga City that runs from in front of Tsuruga Station to Kehi Jingu Shrine. Bronze statues of characters from Leiji Matsumoto's masterpieces 'Galaxy Express 999' and 'Space Battleship Yamato' are installed along the street. Installed to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the opening of Tsuruga Port they are to represent Tsuruga City's image of a Scientific City, a Port, and a Station.

    A lighthouse in Tateishi, Tsuruga City. The stone construction light house is located on Tateishi Cape, right on the point of Tsuruga Peninsula, and was first lit in 1881. It is the second oldest lighthouse on the coast of the Sea of Japan. It has become the city emblem for Tsuruga City and the symbol of Tsuruga as a port city.

    An area on the right bank of Asuwa River in Fukui City that runs from Saiwai-bashi Bridge, past Sakura-bashi Bridge, until Tsukumo-bashi Bridge. The neighborhood prospered as being the river access for nearby Fukui Castle. Around 1955, after Fukui Castle was demolished, the area changed to a high-class restaurant district and bustling with geisha entertainers. In current times a number of the restaurant have been taken over and replaced with classic townhome themed cafes and izakaya pubs. It's become a neighborhood where you can appreciate the classic feel of the past-that-was while enjoying new exciting experiences.
