The Jiro Osaragi Memorial Museum is a literary museum located in Naka Ward in Yokohama that contains a collection of Osaragi's books and personal effects. Adjacent to Minatonomieruoka Park, the museum is a distinctive Western-style red brick building with an arched roof. In addition to literary artifacts, the museum also contains Osaragi's collection of cat figurines and other items decorated with cat motifs, reflecting his fondness for cats.

This museum is located in the center of Yamashita Park a 12-minute walk from Ishikawacho Station and 15 minutes from Motomachi-Chukagai Station. The park is also located next to the Yamatecho bus stop and the Mugitacho bus stop. In 1876, tennis was introduced to Yokohama and it is believed that the first tennis match ever in Japan was held here after a tennis court was built in the park. Accordingly, it is seen as the birthplace of tennis in Japan, and inside the museum visitors can see 100-year-old tennis rackets as well as exhibits which reveal the changes in rackets and tennis wear throughout the years.

Kanagawa Areas

around-area-map

Kanagawa prefecture acts as an extension of the Tokyo metropolis that spills over into coastal towns, most notably Yokohama city, heavily populated and known for its Chinatown and seaside attractions. Just the right distance for a day trip out of Tokyo, Kanagawa is home to some of Tokyo’s most accessible beaches, including around Kamakura, best known for its Big Buddha. Visitors can also travel a little farther afield for a weekend at Hakone onsen town.
