    Tokyo Ogasawaramura Hahajima Moto
A local folk history museum operating out of a restored Taisho period sugar storehouse made out of Ogasawara Ross stone. Ross stone is a stone material used for building; its name is derived from Frederick Rohlfs, a German man who resided on Hahajima Island at the end of the Edo period and who discovered the stone. Inside, the museum displays whaling tools used by early island residents, takonoha-zaiku screwpine leaf work dating to the Meiji period, and maps and old photographs which their everyday lives on the island were revealed. The historic building itself has been designated a Tangible Cultural Property by the Tokyo metropolitan government. The museum also holds classes which teach how to make takonoha-zaiku screwpine leaf work.

Tokyo Areas

around-area-map

The setting of countless iconic movie scenes and the inspiration for songs, poetry, and literature worldwide, Tokyo barely requires an introduction. It’s hard for the kaleidoscopic neon lights, wacky pop culture, and some of the world’s tallest structures not to instill excitement in any first-time visitor to Tokyo, whether you’re in the very center of the hustle and bustle in Shinjuku or Shibuya or looking in from the quieter suburbs.
