"Volcanic cliffs with a striking cross section of volcanic stratum in the Noma area of southwestern Izu Oshima. Roughly 24-meters high and 630-meters in length, the imposing spectacle suddenly appears as you approach along the Oshima Loop Road. They were exposed in 1953 during the road's construction. A clear sign of Izu Oshima's history of volcanic activity, the locals refer to it as ""Baumkuchen."" Nearly 100 layers were formed by volcanic deposits from large eruptions which are said to occur roughly every 150 years. It's been estimated that a part of the layered wall is 12,000 to 15,000 years old."

Tokyo Areas

around-area-map

The setting of countless iconic movie scenes and the inspiration for songs, poetry, and literature worldwide, Tokyo barely requires an introduction. It’s hard for the kaleidoscopic neon lights, wacky pop culture, and some of the world’s tallest structures not to instill excitement in any first-time visitor to Tokyo, whether you’re in the very center of the hustle and bustle in Shinjuku or Shibuya or looking in from the quieter suburbs.
