"Ajigasawa Town was established as a port town in the distant Kamakura period and served as an official port of the local feudal domain for maritime activities on the Sea of Japan in the Edo period, in addition to being a relay point between the Kyoto area and Hokkaido. Blessed with abundant seafood, the town has many seafood specialty products, such as smoked fish and fish dried in the cold midwinter air, but it is the town's half-dried squid that is particularly well-known. The strings of squid being dried in the open air along the National Route look like curtains and thus naturally have come to be called ""squid curtains."""

"Located at the southern foot of Mt. Iwaki, this is a restaurant known as the ""Water Source Village"" located in Nishimeya Village. It is attached to the newly-reopened Tsugaru Shirakami Roadside Station. While viewing the mountain scenery, you can enjoy Nishimeya local gourmet, Shirakami soba, and more. In addition to the recommended dishes like zaru soba and wild vegetable soba, be sure to try the local specialty Tsugaru Dam curry and popular Nome-ya Ramen."

This campsite was created on the plateau that spreads around the foot of Mt. Ajara. There is a wonderful view at the facilities that are surrounded by the beauty of nature, and it is particularly recommended to view the town area from here in the evening. The facilities include cabins accessible to the elderly and disabled, a bungalow in the middle of the forest, and a tent site with a large grassy area where you can fully enjoy nature. Additionally, there is also an administrative building and a cookhouse, and things can also be rented including tents and blankets. There are exhibits of weapons and old documents from feudal times, along with a guardhouse from a checkpoint relocated from near Akita Prefecture where it had been restored. The inspections at the Ikarigaseki checkpoint were so tough that records remain saying that ""in strictness even the checkpoint at Hakone does not match it."" The museum houses recreations of period scenes using figures and tickets from the time period, allowing visitors to learn about the history and background of the era."

This Western-style confectioner is located beside Kita-oh-dori Avenue along the east side of Hirosaki Castle. The showcase on the first floor exudes a bright feeling with white as a motif. In contrast, the second floor has an eat-in space, featuring a chic, grown-up atmosphere colored in black. Popular products include the apple pie, as one might expect from Aomori Prefecture—an apple paradise. The taste is great, and the volume has it hanging over the plate, so it’s known as a place where you get a good deal for the price.

Centuries-old stories of samurai at Kakunodate and the remains of millennia-old archaeological sites including the likes of Isedotai invite history buffs to delve into Aomori’s fascinating history. As the most northern prefecture on the Japanese mainland, Aomori enjoys a cooler climate, which makes it a welcome escape from the southern cities for combining castles, art galleries, and summer festivals with the great outdoors.
