Hiba is a mountain that forms part of the Hiba-Dogo-Teishaku National Park, located on the border with Shimane Prefecture, and is home to a mountain range of 1,200-meter-high peaks. In the center of the circular hill surrounded by a pure beech forest, which is designated as a national natural monument, lies a huge moss-covered stone that is said to be the tomb of Izanami no Mikoto.

    Hiroshima Shobara-shi Tottori Hino-gun
"Located on the border with Tottori Prefecture, this mountain is part of the Hiba-Dogo-Teishaku National Park, where alpine plants and rare animals can be seen at an elevation of over 1000 m. The scenery created by nature and man is breathtaking, including ""Tsukimi-oka"" with its expanse of grass and stone piles that retain remnants of grazing. The area can be enjoyed throughout the year, with colorful alpine flora in spring and summer, autumn leaves in fall, and skiing in winter."

The mountain and its megaliths, which appear triangular in shape when viewed from any direction, east, west, south, north, or south, have long been said to be the mausoleum of Emperor Jinmu. In 1934, pyramid researcher Katsugun Sakai conducted a survey of the site and claimed that it was the world's oldest main building of a pyramid, but the truth of this claim is still unknown.

Hiroshima Areas

around-area-map

There is more than meets the eye awaiting any Hiroshima-bound traveler. Kicking off in Hiroshima city, the Peace Memorial Park, Hiroshima Castle, and Shukkeien Garden offer a couple of days of exploring; however, the real beauty lies along the southern coast of the prefecture. There, a series of islands spreads across the Seto Inland Sea: from the mysterious sea-submerged Great Torii Gate at Miyajima Island to the first half of the islands that connect Honshu to Shikoku via six spectacular suspension bridges.
