A teahouse located in the Koyasan area in Koya Town, Ito County, Wakayama Prefecture which adjoins the identically named Nishiri souvenir shop which was founded in the early Meiji period. Nishii’s signature items are its tofu cake and tofu cookies, which harness the sweetness and flavor of tofu. The café also serves sasa-maki anpu, a renowned Japanese sweet from the Koyasan area. The interior of the shop is quiet and decorated in a purely Japanese style. Customers can enjoy a cup of matcha green tea or organic coffee with a sweet while resting feet tired from walk around Koyasan.

This is a yakimochi (roasted rice cake) specialty shop at the foot of Mt. Koya in Koyasan, Koya Town. Yakimochi is a famous food of Mt. Koya with a history dating back to when Mt. Koya was opened in 816. The Kamikishiya yakimochi, moderately sweet red bean jam wrapped in sticky white-mochi rice cakes and yomogi-mochi (mugwort mochi) before being baked, boasts around 300 years of history as a souvenir for visitors to Mt. Koya.

    焼き餅が有名というから期待していたんだけど、焼かれて冷えてしぼんだ餅でした。しかも、1つだったからかとにかく無愛想な対応。高野山で嫌な思い出になりました。
