- This historic site is situated on Mido-suji Street in 3-Chome Kyutaro-machi, Chuo Ward, Osaka City. It is believed to be the location of the detached room at the residence of Hanaya Niemon where the great haiku poet Matsuo Basho died at the age of 51 in 1694 after collapsing from illness while staying in Osaka. A monument inscribed with Basho's last poem composed just before his death stands on the grounds of the Minamimido temple on the opposite side of the street.

Osaka Areas
While Osaka prefecture is the country's second smallest prefecture, its capital, Osaka City, is the country’s third-largest and arguably one of the most popular in the Kansai region thanks to its vibrant nightlife, the Osaka people’s openness, and its much-loved cuisine, which has earned it the nickname "the nation’s kitchen."
