    Akita Pref. Sembokushi Nishikichousaimyouji Katajiri
This statue is on the west bank of Lake Tazawa, in Aza-Katajiri Nishiki-cho Saimyoji, Semboku City. It's based on the Lake Tazawa legend of Princess Tatsuko, a young girl who prayed for eternal youth and beauty, and whose wish was granted when she drank the waters of a magical forest spring and was turned to a dragon, the guardian spirit of the lake.

I guess it is the most popular tourists round the lake. If you drive round the lake, dont just go there. There are other nice places around the lake.

While the observation deck is closed from December to March it is briefly reopened in February during the Yokote Snow Festival.

Took the Shinkansen to Omagari and then local to Yokote. Heavy snow so I took a taxi to the castle 1,600 yen. This was a day trip and I was unable to establish if there was any bus service during...

Akita Areas

around-area-map

Famed for its sake and samurai, Akita prefecture offers quintessential Japanese culture in a non-touristy setting. Alongside the celebrated rice paddies and historical sites of the region lies dramatic natural scenery in the form of the rugged coastline of the Oga Peninsula and the Dakigaeri Gorge, best visited in autumn, when the leaves begin to change color.
