The museum contains some 40,000 items, including 22 designated Important Cultural Properties, relating to the folk customs, history, and arts and crafts of Ritto. The museum’s standing exhibit covers the history and customs of the area and the facility also holds related special exhibitions.

    ガイドさんの案内で訪ねました。農耕の道具を拝見することができるので、歴史好きにはたまらなかったです。

    A 10-minute walk from JR Kusatsu Station. This longstanding sake company, established in 1874, can be reached by following the Tokaido Highway a short distance southwest from the Kusatsujuku Kaido Koryukan. The company was founded by the Ota family, whose members had served as barrier keepers for generations in Kusatsu, after the abolition of the han system. From the start, the company has made sakes using Omi rice, and today the company makes a wide array of alcoholic beverages, including shochus, wines, and liqueurs, in addition to Dokan, a brand of seishu refined sakes inspired by the famous Ota family samurai commander. The brand's Wataribune is particularly recommended. During the off season, visitors can tour the company's brewery with an advance reservation.

    Just a 10-minute walk from the Minami-Kusatsu Station, this cultural hall just opened in 2015 after being moved from the Shiga Prefectural Residents’ Sozo Hall, to Kusatsu City. Created to provide a place for the Kusatsu citizens’ cultural arts to be promoted, the hall houses one of the few stages with special functions, and an exhibit hall The hall, seating 737, is used for performances of music concerts, ballet, theater, and traditional Japanese art forms. You can get support from professionals for acoustic and sound work. The facility also has exhibit rooms, practice rooms, and a brightly lit glassed in lounge. There are also concerts and events hosted for children and parents also.

    ピアノの発表会や成人式の式典などで何度も利用しています。 大ホールは300人以上は収容できるような立派なホールです。

    A public park situated along the Kogan Road in Imahama-cho, Moriyama City. A renowned destination for rapeseed flowers, from late January to early February, the grounds are carpeted with the blossoms of some 12,000 early-blooming rapeseed plants. Visitors can also enjoy charming sunflower blossoms here in summer.

    昨年から予約制となったのでようやく来店出来ました。それまではオープン3時間前には並ばないと入れないと聞いていたのでとても遠方で無理でした。ケーキは20種類程から5個ずつ食べられるので色々食べましたが全種類制覇は無理でした。ぴざなどもありますがケーキ以上に争奪戦となりあまり食べられないので早めに取る方が良さそうです。

    A public park situated along the Kogan Road in Imahama-cho, Moriyama City. Facing the Lake Biwa, a wide, shallow beach stretches east and west on one side. The beach commands a view of the Hira Mountains on the opposite shore and in winter visitors can enjoy the sight of beautiful snow-capped peaks. The park adjoins Daiichi Nagisa Park, known for its early blooming rapeseed flowers and sunflowers.

    A Buddhist temple located in Ashiura-cho, Kusatsu City. Records state the temple was founded by Prince Shotoku. The temple’s principal object of worship is 11-headed Kanzeon Bodhisattva. After its revival by the priest Kanga in 1408, the temple also began gaining political power—for example, the temple’s ninth head priest, Senshun, was granted control over transportation on Lake Biwa by the mighty samurai lord Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Today, the temple is only open to the general public for worship twice a year in spring and fall—at all other times, worshipping at the temple requires an advance reservation.

    宗派は天台宗のお寺です。本尊は十一面観世音菩薩です。お寺の近くには草津市教育委員会の立てた説明書きがあり、お寺の由来などが見れました。

    "Karasumaru Commemorative Park is located at the beginning of the Karasumaru Peninsula on Lake Biwa. It was built to commemorate the end of a development project. In addition to a 15-meter tall arch-shaped monument that reads ""Lake Biwa, and the Kinki Region that depends on it,"" there are 12 whimsical sculptures. Other facilities include a museum and a water garden, where visitors can enjoy learning all about Lake Biwa. Many visitors, including those with children, consider this an ideal spot for a leisurely walk."

    This is a French confectionery specialty store. It sells cakes, chocolate and baked goods. It has a warm atmosphere reminiscent of south France and there are many handmade western-style confections lining the shelves of the store. There is also a cafe salon, and in fine weather, customers can enjoy their purchases immediately on the terrace seating.

    誕生日に主人がザッハトルテを買ってきてくれました。見た目は美味しそうなのですが、子供たちは美味しくない、好みじゃないと散々。周りのチョコレートはビターで美味しいのですが、中身のジャムがが気持ち悪いほど甘い。ケーキ屋が出来ての頃はすべてのケーキが本当に美味しかったのに、人気が出て店舗が増えた辺りから味が落ちている気がします。今回のザッハトルテははっきり言って不味いです。主人が申し訳なさそうにしていて...

    A Buddhist temple located in Higashitera, Konan City. According to records, the temple was founded in the late Nara period on the order of Emperor Shomu. The temple’s principal object of worship is a figure of the Guardian Kshitigarbha of Childbirth, and worshipers are believed to be granted luck in having children, a safe childbirth, and long life. The hinoki bark thatched roof main temple, built in the Heian period, is a designated National Treasure. Together with the Zensuiji Temple and the Joraku-ji Temple, this temple is counted as one of the “Three Temples of Konan.”

    A Japanese confectionary shop situated along the Tokaido Highway in Oji, Kusatsu City. The shop sells “Ubaga Mochi,” a type of ankoro mochi (mochi rice cake wrapped in sweet bean jam). Made according to the same recipe for over 400 years, these tasty treats are said to have been eaten by the great shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu and were depicted in the ukiyoe woodblock prints of renowned artists like Hiroshige and Hokusai. The shop also sells seasonal snacks and other Japanese confections like “Honjin Monaka” wafer cakes and “Aobanagashi” made with Aobana (a variety of Asiatic dayflower), the official flower of Kusatsu City.

The grand structure was once the residence of a family of merchants who sold “Wachusan,” a medicine for travelers for treating stomach aches and other ills. It was also used as a rest stop for samurai lords passing through the area. The garden on the grounds is a designated National Place of Scenic Beauty. Aside from special days when opened to the general public, an advance reservation is required to tour the garden and building.

    A public park located in Naka-cho, Moriyama City. The “Omi Myoren” lotuses which bloom on Myoren Pond in the park are a variety of lotus believed to have been brought back to Japan from China during the Heian period by Ennin, chief priest of the Enryakuji Temple. The flowers bloom in the thousands from July to August. These flowers, together with the pond itself, have been designated a Natural Monument by the prefecture. The Omi Myoren Lotus Park Museum is located nearby in the park.

Visitors to Shiga prefecture are almost always hopping east across the prefectural border from Kyoto, and they are almost certainly Lake Biwa-bound. Covering an area of 670 square kilometers, Lake Biwa makes up the bulk of Shiga prefecture, with beautiful lakeside paths that offer myriad walking and cycling opportunities, connecting a string of museums, shrines, and picturesque views that finally lead you to Hikone Castle on the eastern side of the lake.
