    A Shinto shrine located in Osatsu Town, famous for its ama female divers and fisherman. The small Shinto shrine located on the approach to the main shrine is locally known as “Ishigami-san.” The shrine is dedicated to the goddess Tamayori-hime. Since ancient times, ama female divers have come to the shrine to pray for safety and large catches. Due to this association, legend has it that the shrine will grant one wish to any woman who prays here. Women from all over the country come to visit the shrine. There is a shop and café housed inside a remodeled private home along the approach to the shrine which sells handmade tokoroten jelly noodles and souvenirs.

    Listed as one of the grand shrines in the Heian period Engi-shiki registry, this Shinto shrine is also known as “Kaburako Daimyojin” and “Shima Daimyojin.” Once the highest ranking shrine of Shima Province, this renowned shrine is still visited by great numbers of worshippers today. Dedicated to the Three Goddesses of Toba, the shrine is believed to grant luck in finding love and marriage.

    This Shinto shrine’s principal object of worship is a figure of a white snack considered one of the Three Goddesses of Toba. The Shrine is popularly known as “Hikotaki-san.” A lovely river flows alongside the approach to the shrine and continues on into its grounds. Past the torii gate lie the upper reaches of the clear stream, and an elegant sacred rope hangs over its waters. The shrine is believed to grant benefits such as alleviating women’s ailments and safe childbirth.

    Hachiman-jinja Shrine is located at the entrance of Toshi Fishing Port. Hachiman Festival held over three days from January 17th to 19th on the Lunar calendar is the largest festival in Toshi Town. Various local groups show dances and performances such as archery rituals and amateur local performances. At the entrance connected with the vermilion-colored Hachiman Bridge, a monument with a poem written about Toshi Island by Kakinomoto Hitomaro has been built. You can see that it has been recognized as an island with abundant seafood and scenic beauty since that time.

    This shrine is located in the courtyard of the Hotel Maritime in Toba City, Mie Prefecture. According to legend, it was built when a local fisherman encountered trouble at sea in 1828. He was saved by a dragon that swooped down and left him on the boulder where the shrine now stands. Honoring a god of victory or defeat, it's often visited by athletes, politicians, and celebrities who consider it a place to draw spiritual energy. The hotel's front desk sells amulets and slips of paper for making wishes and it's said that the faster your paper dissolves in the shrine's sacred water, the sooner your wish will come true.

    This shrine in Toba City, Mie Prefecture is famous for the boon of being beneficial to the eyes and is known locally as Ura-no-Gongen-San. It's primary object of worship is a stone outcrop that's over 99 feet high, and a variety of impressively large trees grow in the shrine's environs. Many come here to visit the Eyewash Spring which flows by the small shrine to the left of the main sanctuary. From ages past legend has said that drinking from it will improve eye ailments. The sanctuary enshrines Azumiwake-no-Mikoto, a local guardian deity who was believed to improve women's milk production in times of little food.

    "This Shinto shrine is located in Kamijima-cho, Toba City on the outlying island of Kamishima, famously used as a setting in Yukio Mishima's novel ""The Sound of Waves."" Just when the shrine was founded is not clear. The shrine stands at the top of over 200 stone steps. A portion of the shrine's treasures are registered as National Important Cultural Properties as the Ise Kamishima Festival Relics. The Geh-tah Matsuri, a distinctly unusual festival, is held at the shrine on New Year's Day."

    This Shinto shrine is located in 2-Chome Toba, Toba City. One of the branch shrines of Kotohira-gu Shrine in Kagawa Prefecture, the shrine stands near the top of Mt. Hinoyama. Dedicated to Omononushi-no-Kami and Emperor Sutoku, the shrine is a shrine of maritime safety. Visitors can also enjoy a view of Toba Bay from the shrine's grounds.

Spread across the eastern side of the Kii Peninsula, Mie prefecture boasts hundreds of kilometers of pretty coastline comprising the oyster-rich Toba city and Shima National Park all the way down to Kumano, a city that marks the beginning of part of the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage, which runs into neighboring Wakayama prefecture. However, Mie is best known for the Ise Jingu Shinto shrine inland, one of the oldest and largest shrines in the country.
