  • Isegeku Sando Onsen
    Accommodations / Hot Spring
    Mie Ise-shi Honmachi 1-1
The Ise Geku Sando Onsen is a hot spring welling forth on the grounds of the Ise Shinsen ryokan inn and is the only natural hot spring found in front of the Ise Jingu Shrine. The inn makes use of additional heating and water in its baths to adjust the waters of its sodium chloride hydrocarbonate saline spring. It is said that since ancient times travelers, known as misogi, would ritually purify themselves in these saline waters before worshipping at the shrine. All of the inn's 45 rooms have its own outdoor bath, making it easy for guests to enjoy the natural, curative hot spring waters. The Ise Utsuwa Ichi pottery market, located on the inn's grounds, sells pottery from throughout the Chubu region, including Mino ware, Bizen ware, Seto ware, Tokoname ware, and Shigaraki ware-pottery from regions counted among the Six Ancient Kilns-as well as local Mie Prefecture Iga ware and Yokkaichi City Banko ware.

Spread across the eastern side of the Kii Peninsula, Mie prefecture boasts hundreds of kilometers of pretty coastline comprising the oyster-rich Toba city and Shima National Park all the way down to Kumano, a city that marks the beginning of part of the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage, which runs into neighboring Wakayama prefecture. However, Mie is best known for the Ise Jingu Shinto shrine inland, one of the oldest and largest shrines in the country.
