This bistro is on to the side of the approach to Geku, Ise-jingu Shrine from Iseshi Station, and it has an at-home atmosphere that makes it a favorite among the locals. It’s perfect for enjoying original recipes with a French twist in a casual setting. The sauces and desserts are all handmade. Organic vegetables and brown rice from Ise are used, as well as fresh Mie fish and other local ingredients. The “Mirepoix lunch” is packed with seasonal ingredients, and you’ll also find individual dishes and a dinner course that includes Matsusaka beef, Ise chicken, and other tasty options.

Since the G7 Summit in Ise, the area has really begun to fancy itself. The holiest Shinto shrines in Japan werent enough. French restaurants in the area are expensive, and while good, are pretty...

This western-style restaurant is located on Okage Yokocho Street, in front of theinner shrines of Ise Grand Shrine. It was built in the style of a Taisho period western building, and designed to have an antique, calming atmosphere. The Yosegi-zaiku wooden flooring with bay windows and chandeliers come together to create the distinctive atmosphere of a western-style building. The restaurant's menu is varied, with items such as curry, hamburg, fried shrimp, omelet rice and other authentic western dishes. The Hayashi rice and hamburg with its homemade demi-glace sauce is particularly popular. The restaurant extracts and coldbrews its coffee in the morning, and the black tea used is made from domestic tea leaves.

Located on the second floor of a building that stands along the approach to the Ise Jingu Outer Shrine, Poni Anela is a restaurant that feels like a hideaway. At lunchtime, it serves a daily lunch special. Diners can see the Outer Shrine from the window, so Poni Anela has the advantage of being a place where hungry pilgrims can easily stop by for something to eat. At dinnertime, Poni Anela transforms itself into a wine bar. Wine varieties and homemade small plate menu items are well-paired and available at reasonable prices. With its intimate, hideaway atmosphere, it is a great spot for drinking with friends or colleagues after an event or for other casual drinking.

Mie Areas

around-area-map

Spread across the eastern side of the Kii Peninsula, Mie prefecture boasts hundreds of kilometers of pretty coastline comprising the oyster-rich Toba city and Shima National Park all the way down to Kumano, a city that marks the beginning of part of the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage, which runs into neighboring Wakayama prefecture. However, Mie is best known for the Ise Jingu Shinto shrine inland, one of the oldest and largest shrines in the country.
