This embankment runs along the Shinsakaigawa River in Kakamigahara City. It's well-known for its cherry blossoms and has been chosen as one of the top 100 cherry blossom viewing sites in Japan. About 1,200 Yoshino cherry trees run along both banks, forming the amazing sight of a blossoming tunnel over the river. The locally born and bred kabuki actor Hyakujuro Ichikawa donated them when the Sakaigawa River Drainage Canal was completed, and they're still known as the Hyakujuro Cherry Trees. Their annual cherry blossom festival in early April with its food stalls along the bank and various events at the nearby park is always crowded with visitors.

A cherry tree on the precincts of Ganjoji Temple, said to have been founded by Murakuni no Oyori, a warrior who served during the Onin War. With 20 to 30 petals on each flower, it's thought to be a mountain cherry tree variant. The nationally designated Natural Monument is about 1,200 years old. The name comes from Nakasho Hime, who fled to the temple to escape from her step-mother. Legend says she planted the tree to give thanks and as an offering to protect women of the future.
