Shinsakaigawa Riverbank

Place famous for cherry blossoms
This embankment runs along the Shinsakaigawa River in Kakamigahara City. It's well-known for its cherry blossoms and has been chosen as one of the top 100 cherry blossom viewing sites in Japan. About 1,200 Yoshino cherry trees run along both banks, forming the amazing sight of a blossoming tunnel over the river. The locally born and bred kabuki actor Hyakujuro Ichikawa donated them when the Sakaigawa River Drainage Canal was completed, and they're still known as the Hyakujuro Cherry Trees. Their annual cherry blossom festival in early April with its food stalls along the bank and various events at the nearby park is always crowded with visitors.
