In 1903, the first prime minister, Hirobumi Ito, opened the ryotei Shougetsu in Oiso. The restaurant received its name from Ito Hirobumi and has been family owned and operated from the Meiji era to 2021. The current owner trained at a ryotei restaurant in Kaga, and offers a fusion of tradition and novelty. The menu is decided at the time of reservation, and the restaurant is particular about its space, including tatami room seating, courtyard, and tea ceremony room.

Kanagawa Areas

around-area-map

Kanagawa prefecture acts as an extension of the Tokyo metropolis that spills over into coastal towns, most notably Yokohama city, heavily populated and known for its Chinatown and seaside attractions. Just the right distance for a day trip out of Tokyo, Kanagawa is home to some of Tokyo’s most accessible beaches, including around Kamakura, best known for its Big Buddha. Visitors can also travel a little farther afield for a weekend at Hakone onsen town.
