Jogashima Island is located at the southern tip of the Miura Peninsula. It's the largest natural island in Kanagawa Prefecture. A habitat for Japanese cormorants, pelagic cormorants, and eastern reef herons, it's been designated a prefectural Natural Monument. Jogashima Prefectural Park occupies the eastern half of the island and is known for its daffodils. Many people visit in January when the island holds its Daffodil Festival. Yae daffodils are at their peak during this time, and there are also performances of kaibo jinya drumming and soran-bushi. They sell special items like jinyajiru soup too.

An aesthetic landscape in Jogashima Island, Misaki-machi, Miura City. A sea cave on the southern tip of Jogashima Island created by the power of nature offset with the vastness of the Pacific Ocean is a sight to behold. The site can be located by foot from Jogashima Park located on the eastern side of the island.

The coastline facing Sagami Bay is called Zushi Beach. It's known for its shallow water and calm waves and it gets packed with sea bathers when the hot season arrives. They hold the Zushi Beach Fireworks in summer and a horseback archery event in November. Its monument commemorating the Shintaro Ishihara novel The Season of the Sun is famous. The nearest stations are Zushi Station on the JR Line and Shinzushi Station on the Keikyu Zushi Line.

At this popular destination for leisure-time drives and tours, visitors can view a beautiful coastal landscape while caressed by saltwater breezes. The Hashirimizu Coast was a popular sea bathing spot in Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture. The swimming beach has been closed since 2017, but it is still one of the few spots on the Miura Peninsula where it is possible to dig for shellfish, so it is popular with families. Furthermore, this stretch of the coast offers a panoramic view that includes Sarushima Island, the Boso Peninsula, and Tokyo Bay, including close-up views of the large ships that pass in and out of the bay.

Kanagawa Areas

around-area-map

Kanagawa prefecture acts as an extension of the Tokyo metropolis that spills over into coastal towns, most notably Yokohama city, heavily populated and known for its Chinatown and seaside attractions. Just the right distance for a day trip out of Tokyo, Kanagawa is home to some of Tokyo’s most accessible beaches, including around Kamakura, best known for its Big Buddha. Visitors can also travel a little farther afield for a weekend at Hakone onsen town.
