駅前から国道6号線に向かう広い桜並木通りにて毎年さくら祭りが開催されます。なかでも『日立風流物』と称される、山車として国内ではじめて国の重要有形民俗文化財と重要無形民俗文化財に指定された伝統芸能、高さ15mにもおよぶ豪壮な山車や、五層のからくり舞台で演じられる操り人形芝居は必見です。
