Jododaira is a subalpine plateau on Washikurayama, Tsuchiyu Onsen Town, Fukushima City, Fukushima Prefecture. The coniferous forest and marshland creates a unique landscape. The visitors center is the central location for their five trekking courses which vary from a 20-minute walk to hikes that can take a few hours. There is an observatory that is open every Wednesday and Saturday evening for star gazing. The road is closed from late October to early April due to snow.

    Fukushima-ken Nihonmatsu-shi Okudake Onsen
At 1,728 meters high this beautiful mountain was selected as one of Japan’s Top 100 mountains and appears in Kotaro Takamura’s poem Portrait of Chieko. It is only 10-minutes to the summit via the Mt. Adatara ropeway. There you can gaze over the Adatara and Zao Mountain Ranges.
  • Mt. Azuma-kofuji

Fukushima Pref. Fukushimashi Tsuchiyuonsenmachi Washokurayama Pure Land Inland
The 1,707 meter tall Mt. Azuma-kofuji is part of the Azuma Mountain Range. When you look west from the Fukushima city area, it looks like nothing so much as a small version of Mt. Fuji, thus the name of Kofuji. You can take the Bandai Azuma Skyline Drive to the Jododaira parking area, and from there climb the stairs for a clear view of the mortar-shaped crater. If the weather is right, you can see all the way to the Fukushima Basin, and the ease of climb makes it a draw for those wanting an easy hike.
