    Hokkaido Nemuroshi Shunkunitai
A sandbar extending from the Nemuro Peninsula towards Lake Furen. The eight-kilometer-long sandbar, formed through the accumulation of sand brought here by ocean currents, is the site of unusual environmental conditions almost completely untouched by humankind and accordingly is called a miracle island. Coastal, forest, grassland, wetland, tidal flatland, and lake and marsh conditions are all found on the sandbar, and to date some 300 species of wild birds have been recorded living here. Because of this, the sandbar has also been registered under the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands. A nature watching path has been built for visitors to walk which extends from Tobai, Nemuro City towards Shunkunitai.

Hokkaido Areas

around-area-map

Not just a prefecture but an island of its own, Hokkaido is the most northerly prefecture and island of the Japanese archipelago. Arriving in Hokkaido, which is rural and bursting with breathtaking nature, means entering a world where vast national parks, towering mountains, and natural hot springs can be found at every turn. Come December, these natural splendors freeze over and morph into a winter wonderland.
