    This store sells panju, a specialty product of Otaru, which is soft on the inside and crisp on the outside. The word panju has even been added to the Kojien Japanese dictionary. At four centimeters tall and three centimeters wide, it is the size of a takoyaki, and has fillings of cream and cheese available. Panju has been used as an everyday snack since the Meiji period and was a reasonably priced food for common folk in a time when bread was still expensive. The snack is carefully handmade with 100% Hokkaido-produced crisp dough, and hot and plenty of fillings. It is best eaten freshly baked, but is also very nice when enjoyed at home after being heated by a microwave and finished off in an oven toaster to get that characteristic crisp outer texture.

    昔から「みどり屋」のおせんべいは小樽っ子にとってはなじみの味です。一枚100円前後なので大勢集まるときの手土産には最高です。また、小腹が空いたときのおやつにも手ごろです。お安くなっている袋に入った「あられ」もあり、家で食べるにはこれがお手頃です。ぜひ食べてほしいです。

    中央通りのおたる都通り商店街から出た近くにあり、ぱっと目立つのですぐわかります。小樽名物ぱんじゅうの粒あん・こしあんを購入1個90円でした。皮が薄くてあんこたっぷりでおいしかった。
