    This Japanese confection shop is located in Matsushima Chonai, Matsushima Town, Miyagi County. It makes and sells Matsushima Koren rice crackers, which are said to have first been made by a nun from Matsushima’s Kannon-do Temple known as “Korenni” using rice offered to the temple as a form of charity. The technique for making this famous additive-free confection has been passed down to a single successor for 23 generations over 700 years. In addition to versions flavored with caster sugar and Wasonbon sugar, there is also a version flavored with healthier reduced maltose sugar.

    This Japanese confection shop is located on National Route 48 in Ainosawa, Sakunami Aoba Ward, Sendai City. It sells a variety of Japanese sweets made in the old-fashioned way with homemade sweetened red bean paste and other choice ingredients. Offerings include kushidango (sweet dumplings on skewers), warabimochi (bracken starch dumplings), and mame daifuku (rice cake mixed with adzuki beans and stuffed with sweetened bean paste), which is offered exclusively on weekends. Their fried tsutsumiage buns, which feature a filling of strained bean paste and walnuts, are also popular.

    リーズナブルで出来立てでおいしい。フレーバーも多く他にも揚げ饅頭もおいしい。胡麻、胡桃、ずんだを購入。特にずんだはあんがたっぷりで甘さも適当。団子が柔らかく本当においしい。

    The headquarters, factory, and shop for the famous traditional Sendai sweet, Sanshoku Monaka, which resembles three spread fans each containing a different sweet bean paste. In the shop facing out at National Route 4 they sell primarily their flagship Sanshoku Monaka along with a variety of other Japanese-style sweets. Sanshoku Monaka, with its catchphrase of Eating One is as Tasty as All Three, was originally sold as three separate products. It's said the modern product came from a customer who couldn't decide between the three and asked if they could have a Monaka packed with all three bean pastes. The red bean paste made with Hokkaido Tokachi red beans, white bean paste made with Hokkaido Tokachi large otebo beans, and either a sesame or matcha green tea bean paste makes for an exquisite harmony that makes a fantastic present.

    Founded in 1947, Kasho Sanzen is a sweets shop known for its “Hagi no Tsuki” —a famous sweet of Sendai. In addition to Hagi no Tsuki, this shop sells a variety of western and Japanese sweets—nearly 160—including Royal Terrasse, Aozashi, and famous Sendai treats like Date Komaki and Date Emaki. The namagashi named for the 24 divisions of the solar year is also quite delicious. About six minutes on foot from Omachi Nishi-koen Station on the Tozai Subway Line.

The shop's Nama Dorayaki, available since 1987, consists of an paste made with high quality Hokkaido adzuki beans mixed with whipped cream and sandwiched between two dorayaki pancakes. In addition to standard flavors like adzuki plain bean and chocolate, the shop also offers special seasonal flavors like sour cream, Japanese chestnut, and cafe au lait.     Founded in 1949, this Japanese-style confectionary is on the first basement floor of the main building of JR Sendai Station's S-Pal Sendai. The hasekura-yaki featured in the shop's moniker is a sweet named after the samurai Hasekura Tsunenaga. It features white bean paste with chestnuts wrapped in a light crust made with fresh butter with the hasekura-yaki Japanese character on it. Its popularity took off to the extent that they stopped dealing in other items back in 1963. Still made by hand, it remains one of Sendai's most recognizable confections to this day. They also offer special gift versions marked with the Japanese characters for celebration and longevity.

    A Japanese confectionary shop which has been operating in the same location since it was established in 1695. This long-standing establishment serves sells traditional sweets with a focus on old-fashioned dagashi. The shop's cute Sasara-ame, resembling a Japanese temari ball, were invented by the eighth owner in 1957 and have won numerous awards. The shop's renowned Sendai Tessen are modeled after an old coin once used in the ancient Sendai Domain and are a popular souvenir because they are said to bring luck with money. The shop's Sendai dagashi sweets set is also highly valued to give as a gift. In honor of the fictional character Airi Hayashida from the hit anime Wake Up, Girls! calling the area her home, the shop also sells a version with her name on them.

Their veteran main shop in Wakabayashi Ward has been making confections for over 90 years. They lovingly make Japanese sweets that incorporate the charm of the seasons. Their zunda mochi is a Sendai specialty and is only available for a limited period between June and the end of October. Their popular standards zunda manju with sweet bean jam and kurumi yubeshi with walnuts are available year-round and make great gifts. Colorful and attractive, their nerikiri sweets and chilled desserts also come recommended.
