Currently, it is a popular spot for young people, and a free shuttle bus service is available from JR Atami Station.

If you stay at this hotel, I suggest you go to the Spa. My family enjoy there a whole day. Great Onsen. The room has a great view, too! The food was decent. I like that they offer special/local beers.

Located on the shore of Lake Towada in Towada-Hachimantai National Park, this long-established hotel features a three-story wooden main building made of Akita cedar. The hotel was built by about 80 carpenters from the three prefectures in the northeastern Tohoku region, and each room is unique in its design. The main building is designated as a registered tangible cultural property of Japan, and the vaulted entrance hall has a beautiful sukiya-style ceiling. All rooms are located on the Lake Towada side of the building and offer spectacular views during your stay. There are many sightseeing spots nearby, and the hotel is open only from mid-April to mid-November.

Established in 1899 in front of Obihiro Station, Hokkaikan moved to its current location in 1966 and changed its name to Hokkaido Hotel in 1994. It is accessible by bus or cab, and the Kamikochi Imperial Hotel is located near the end of the route. Walking back from the bus stop, visitors can enjoy the spectacular view of the Hotaka mountain range and the scenery along the Azusa River. Also recommended is the route across Kappa Bridge and down the other side of the river, or get off at Taisho Pond and take the forest course via Tashiro Pond. The fresh greenery in late May and the autumn leaves in October are especially beautiful.

A bread bakery located on the first floor of the Shibutoge Hotel a 50-minute drive from the Shinshu Interchange on the Joshin-Etsu Expressway. The bakery is 2,000 meters above sea level, making it the second highest in Japan. Known for its charming breads made by hand the old fashioned way, popular selections include the coleseed bread stuffed with sauteed coleseed greens; and the walnut bread, whose dough is mixed with huge chunks of walnut. The standard anpan bean paste bread, cream bread, and melon bread are also recommended. The bakery closes each day when stock runs out.
