    Kanagawa Pref. Kamakurashi Tokiwa 273-3
A former ryotei traditional Japanese restaurant remodeled and turned into a guesthouse by the owner. The huge irori sunken hearth in the communal area is the guesthouse’s trademark. The facility is a relaxing, “pure Japanese” structure supported by 10 stout wood pillars. Guests are free to use the kitchen and can thus make their own food; the guesthouse also rents bicycles. The bar Little Planet opened underneath in October 2016. Guests can take food and drinks bought in the bar and bring them into the guesthouse above.

I lived on Kamakura for some years decades ago, and wanted to bring my family back to visit. We chose the Guest House because of reviews and the fact that it could offer us a unique in-country...

    Niigata Sado-shi Shukunegi 322
A guesthouse tucked away in Shukunegi, a town with a concentration of boatbuilders that formed during the 17th century as the Sado goldmine flourished. In the maze-like alleys behind the Shukunegi post office you can find all sorts of goods from fresh turban shells and abalone to the local specialty of handmade soba noodles. They serve fresh seafood caught by hand using traditional fishing techniques and tub-shaped boats. The guesthouse is located near to Ogi Kaichu Park which is known for its crystal-clear waters making this a great base point for those interested in swimming. A common sight is fellow guests sitting in the lounge around the sunken hearth enjoying the inn's original label of sake and partaking in conversation.

    Ishikawa Hosu-gun Notocho Yanami 27-26-3
This small inn, operated by an Australian chef and the Noto-born proprietress, accommodates just four groups of guests a day. It is situated on a hill in Yanami on the Noto Peninsula, and on clear days, guests can see all the way the Sea of Japan to the Tateyama Mountain Range. All of the inn's rooms are Japanese-style, and everything about the establishment, from the wooden beams spanning the ceiling to the views of the sea and the inn's Japanese garden visible from the windows, exudes a faintly nostalgic air. There's also a handmade outdoor bath in a corner of the garden where guests can soak and take in a view of the ocean sprawling into the distance. For food, the inn serves Italian cuisine made with local seasonings and ingredients from Ishikawa Prefecture. The inn takes great pride in hospitality which enables guests to truly experience Noto - for example, works of art by local artists are displayed in the guest rooms and dining room.

This was the highlight of our holiday. Beautiful surrounds, lovely decor at a special place in Noto. Chikako and Ben are passionate and proud of their place, and so they should. Delicious food...

    Hokkaido Menashigunrausuchou Azabuchou 27
"A Japanese diner and guesthouse situated along National Route 335 in Asabu-cho, Rausu Town, Menashi County, Hokkaido Prefecture. The restaurant serves seafood like seafood ramen and the ""Special-don,"" a rice bowl topped with fresh seafood from Rausu; as well as dishes like pork cutlet and egg rice bowls and meat rice bowls made with Golden Pork from Saiboku Ham in Sendai. Available for use as a guesthouse as well, the establishment is adjoined by a banquet hall."

    店主の人格に問題あり。せっかくの旅行がだいなしでした。二度と伺いません。店内も不衛生でした。ハエが飛び回り、畳はボロボロ。広すぎるので手が回らないのでしょうか?

This restaurant is located next to Higashi Shiiya Falls, included in the 100 Views of New Japan list, a 20-minute drive from the Ajimu Interchange on the Higashikyushu Expressway. Customers can enjoy local cuisine and a view of the falls as well as the surrounding natural, seasonal beauty. The restaurant's soft-shelled turtle hotpot is made with the shell and meat of the turtle cooked in pure underground spring water and sake; you can also enjoy zosui rice gruel made with the leftover broth when you're done. The restaurant's soft-shelled turtle course meal is particularly popular and comes with soft-shelled turtle hotpot, sashimi, karaage deep-fried turtle, pickled turtle, kakketsu medicinal turtle blood tonic, and zosui rice gruel. Other recommendations include the restaurant's Japanese salmon and other river fish cuisine, charcoal grilled local chicken, and exquisite pond snail sauteed with miso.

    Tottori Saihaku-gun Daisencho 46
"This ryokan inn is located a five-minute walk from the climbing trail for Mt. Daisen, also known as Hoki Fuji. Situated along the Miyuki Sando, the ""longest stone-paved road in Japan,"" the air of a bygone era hangs around the inn. The inn is around 100 meters from the Daisen-ji bus stop. A portion of the inn's guest rooms have views of Mt. Daisen and the Sea of Japan. The owner endeavors to create a familial atmosphere and is well-versed on climbing Mt.
