A museum dedicated to railway history located close to JR Mojiko Station. Inside, visitors can climb aboard actual trains used from the Meiji period onward. The museum also has interactive exhibits that give participants a taste of what travel was once like during various periods of railroad history in Japan. The realistic model railroad presenting a panorama of railways in Kyushu and the museum’s simulator, which lets users experience what it is like to drive an 811 series train, are particularly popular. The Train Exhibition Hall displays nine historic trains which operated in Kyushu. Visitors can also try driving a miniature train outside the museum.

Small in size but has a lot to offer for a railway museum. Impressive locomotives and other trains kept in good condition... Building above also has additional items

It is a half-timber style building built in 1921 as a social club for the Moji branch of Mitsui & Co. It is also famous for the Einstein Memorial Room, where Einstein stayed when he visited Japan, and is still preserved and open to the public in its original form.

In Mojiko Retro area, there are many western buildings in Meiji time. Old Mitsui Club, which stands just in front of JR Mojiko station, is one of them, and it is maybe the most remarkable one...

Built in 1909 when Moji Customs was inaugurated, this building with its impressive red brick exterior was used as a customs office building until the early Showa period (1912-1989). It also has an observation room with a panoramic view of the Kanmon Straits and Mojiko Retro.

Brick built Western styled building (built 1912), very reminiscent of the British Georgian period architecture. Although I would personally rank it after some of the equally impressive buildings...

"A five-minute walk from Mojiko Station, this museum introduces the history, culture, and nature of the Kanmon Straits, including the ""Straits Atrium"" where visitors can experience history through fantastic sound and light, the ""Straits Historical Corridor"" where dolls from historical dramas such as the Battle of Dannoura and the Duel at Ganryujima are on display, and the ""Straits Retro Street"" that recreates Taisho-romantic buildings and streetcars. From the exhibition room on the 4th floor, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of the Kanmon Straits."

The first floor is a gallery for Watase Seizo, a cartoonist from Kitakyushu City, and a gallery for Mojiko and other local artists to exhibit and sell their works. The second floor is a rental hall.

This is one of the western buildings in Mojiko Retro area. It was once used as an office of sea transportation company. Inside is now beautiful a gallery, but as I went at night, I just took pictures...

This art museum is located an eight-minute walk from JR Mojiko Station. It has a modern and nostalgic exterior, does not have permanent exhibits, and holds exhibitions from five to six times a year centered on Japanese paintings and Chinese and Japanese ceramics. It also has the Idemitsu Founding History Room that follows the life of Idemitsu Sazo, the founder of Idemitsu Kosan who opened the museum. There are seven corners that introduce the footsteps of Idemitsu Sazo and his respect for life and dignity.

"This is a museum in Mojiko retro district. The cultural building, dating from 1924, has been certified as a ""Heritage of Industrial Modernization"". The museum displays telephones and telecommunication devices dating from the Meiji Era to the present day. Visitors can learn how old-fashioned telephones used to be connected, as well as experience using a manually operated switchboard. The museum appeals to everyone. Children find it new and interesting, and older visitors will find it nostalgic."

I decided to take in the Moji Telecommunication Museum despite the fact that it was at the eastern extremity of the Guide Map of Mojiko Retro Town. Having visited, however, I am really glad I made...
