"This restaurant and souvenir shop offers a workshop that lets you try making Sanuki udon noodles by hand. With good access from Ritsurin Garden which is designated as a Special Place of Scenic Beauty, Yashima Island, and the temples of the Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage, you'll definitely want to stop by. Besides Sanuki udon, there are a lot of popular products such as the ""Nakano Udon School Set"" where you make the noodles by hand. They stock a lot of other special products from Shikoku too."

Our organized tour group enjoyed this activity together. We worked in groups of 2 and 4 to mix the flour and water to make the udon dough. Then, several of us got to knead the dough that was in a...

    Kagawa Takamatsu-shi Ikushimacho 689-11
This disaster prevention center is located along the Ikishima Bay. It was opened to promote prevention awareness and to improve the dissemination of prevention means and skills. On the first level at the disaster prevention corner, visitors can engage in three real disaster simulations. The storm and flood, earthquake, and fire disasters experiences, where one feels the actual shaking, and must flee in smoky conditions as well as put out fires. Although it is difficult to envision and conceptualize such conditions as a typhoon, or high wave damage, footage of such disasters, which have actually occurred in Kagawa, is shown, raising the visitor's awareness levels. The other well-equipped corner is the emergency rescue experience corner, where visitors learn about emergency rescue and first-aid measures.

This center, with a name that means an abundant ocean in Italian, is a hands-on learning center here in the heart of the birthplace of young yellowtail fisheries, where visitors can try their hand at fishing for sea bream, or feed the young yellowtail at Ado Pond. Enveloped in the sea breezes from the Seto Inland Sea, they have exhibits and areas for learning about the cultivation of young yellowtail. People of all ages, from young to old, can come here and learn while enjoying a day at this center. From the deck, visitors can toss feed into a young yellowtail tank and enjoy watching the fish congregate while spraying water all around. The powerful tussling movements of the fish before one’s eyes is magnificent to see.

Kagawa Areas

around-area-map

Japan’s smallest prefecture, Kagawa, may take up just a small corner of Shikoku, but it has grown increasingly popular with the recognition of Naoshima, its "art island" in the Seto Inland Sea between Shikoku and Honshu. Just a stone’s throw from the islands, mainland Kagawa’s prefectural capital, Takamatsu, holds history in its castle ruins and its pride and joy, Ritsurin Garden, is known as one of the country’s best gardens.
