    This is a museum located in Tomo Town, Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture, which was opened in 2012 after renovating an over 150 year old cellar. The museum was made to express art brut (outsider art) which is a form of art not influenced by existing conceptions, and most of the exhibits are by artists who have not received professional art education. Many art works in the museum are innovative and “raw art” closely connected to the local community. Also, the historical grand ceiling cannot be missed.

    小烏神社の鳥居の近くにある小さな美術館でした。ミュージアムというので博物館かと思っていました。建物は土蔵で中はわからないので、中にはいって美術館なのがわかりました。展示は地元に関係のある美術展示が中心で、個人的におもしろいと思ったのは、鉄道模型の展示ぐらいでした。

    美術館と言うよりも一寸、小さめの病院といった作りです。コレクションは特出したものはありませんが、時間をもてあましたときにさくっと観覧できるのがいいですね。

    熊野の山の上にあるので、観光客はおいそれと行ける場所ではなりませんが、ここの館長は中国美術に造詣の深い方のようで、そのコレクションはここが福山の田舎の山の中であることを忘れてしまうくらいです。
