A Japanese style cafe located on Machiya Street on Miyajima Island, Hatsukaichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture, managed by the famous oyster restaurant Yakigaki No Hayashi. The interior of the cafe is a blend of Japanese and modern tastes giving the air of sukiya zukuri, or the style of a tea ceremony house, where guests can relax while gazing out over the courtyard garden. Sweets made with organic matcha green tea and hojicha (roasted green tea) are popular, as well as the parfait made with homemade sweet bean paste and matcha Swiss roll. As well as a cafe menu they also have a range of popular healthy options for lunch. In one corner of the shop they also sell some pretty miscellaneous items such as decorative masking tape, etc.

A Japanese cake shop founded in 1925 and located on the Omotesando Shopping Street in Miyajima Town, Hatsukaichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture. The momiji manju cake, lovingly baked using plenty of locally sourced eggs and bean jam made with adzuki beans from Hokkaido is their signature product. Visitors to the shop can see the cakes being made and there is a cafe area where visitors can taste the freshly baked cakes. Their deliciously light awa-setsu-ka cake with the taste of lemon yokan (sweetened jellied bean paste) melting in the mouth is also very popular.

Opened in 1955, Sakamoto Kashiho specializes in the momiji manju cakes and is located in Miyajima Town, Hatsukaichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture. Their signature product, sarashian, is an old-fashioned tasting sweet made by placing peeled adzuki beans in water and cooked together with some carefully selected sugar. It’s a popular recipe of soft mochi and light castella dough just like the finest Japanese confections. Their monburan and sakura-an, available depending on the season, are also popular and can be bought as a set in a box or individually.

Hiroshima Areas

There is more than meets the eye awaiting any Hiroshima-bound traveler. Kicking off in Hiroshima city, the Peace Memorial Park, Hiroshima Castle, and Shukkeien Garden offer a couple of days of exploring; however, the real beauty lies along the southern coast of the prefecture. There, a series of islands spreads across the Seto Inland Sea: from the mysterious sea-submerged Great Torii Gate at Miyajima Island to the first half of the islands that connect Honshu to Shikoku via six spectacular suspension bridges.
