Hirugano Kogen Bokka-no-sato is a farming theme Park providing visitors with a range of hands-on activities to do with plants and animals. The huge flower field is divided into four gardens and it is strikingly colored with flowers and green throughout the seasons. The farm is home to various animals such as horses, alpacas, sheep and rabbits. Events are held from time to time each season. In the park restaurant and cafe you can enjoy fresh food from Hirugano Highland and local foods from Mino and Hida. There is also a hot-spring where you can enjoy a herbal and outdoor bath.

Quiet beautiful place. Animal feeding (horses and llamas were so sweet), train rides, delightful bakery on site, set in the Japanese countryside. Gorgeous landscape even without the flowers in full...

This shiitake mushroom farm is dedicated to traditional cultivation using logs. They forgo more efficient mushroom bed cultivation in favor of growing on timber, which requires hard work and is sensitive to environmental influences. They rely on the gradual decomposition of hardwoods such as nara and kunugi oak, resulting in delectable, fragrant shiitake with a nice, soft texture. You can pick-your-own shiitake mushrooms there if you make reservations at least a day in advance.

A ranch about a 15-minute drive from the Hirugano Kogen Smart Interchange on the Tokai Hokuriku Expressway (only accessible with electronic toll collection (ETC) cards). They care for Kiso-uma, Honshu's only Japanese native horse species, and also run a tourist ranch where you can enjoy horseback riding. Kiso-uma average about 135-centimeter-tall and are stocky with short torsos and a friendly disposition. Since they are gentle, everyone from small children to adults can ride worry-free. Their Hirugano Hoplodge pension on the grounds offers a horseback riding package where visitors can get in a lot of riding on both the day of their stay and the day after.

Tucked away in the very center of Japan, Gifu prefecture houses mountains, old towns, and one of Japan’s greatest hot springs, Gero Onsen. A tour of the prefecture’s traditional architecture will take you from the mountain-enveloped wooden streets of Takayama to the mountain village of Shirakawago, where visitors can explore 250-year-old thatched roofed houses known as gassho-zukuri.
