    Accommodations / Hot Spring
    Nagano Pref. Kisogunkisomachi Shinkai 6013
This day-trip hot spring facility is located in Kiso-machi, Kiso County, Nagano Prefecture. You can take relaxing soaks in hot springs in a ravine surrounded by mountains of Kiso. On clear days, you are able to see Mt. Komagatake, Mt. Mugikusa and Mt. Misawa from the hot springs. It also features a bubbling carbonated spring you can enjoy. In addition, there is a Japanese-style resting place available for private rentals, and also a restaurant to eat edible wild plants and soba noodles.

The final owner was Shimazaki Toson’s older brother Hirosuke. Also, their mother was born there. The Honjin you see today was restored based on pictures from the Shimazaki family collection. When you visit, you’ll see models of even earlier versions of the building, and there’s a traditional irori hearth that they light every day. You can visit the Honjin, Wakihonjin Okuya, and Nagiso (town) Museum of History with a single ticket.

The owner was attracted to the lacquerware made nearby and opened this shop after studying at Kiso Lacquer Institute. His original works and local artists’ works are displayed and available for sale. Inside you will find utensils, clothing, accessories, wild vine baskets and more. Among the recommended items would be the “sugisara”—born from its use of Natural Monument Yakushima cedars, which were felled by the typhoon. The lacquerware includes many everyday easy-to-use pieces.
