Lake Kawaguchi is located at the lowest elevation of the Fuji Five Lakes. It also has the longest shoreline, about 20 kilometers, of any of the lakes and affords spectacular views of the magnificent Mt. Fuji. The area is a popular resort attracting many visitors with so many things to do such as the Music Forest Museum, pleasure cruises, campsites and hotels. The lake is registered as a World Heritage site as part of the Fujisan cultural site, ‘Fujisan, sacred place and source of artistic inspiration’.

Located at an elevation of 900 meters, Lake Shojiko Is the smallest of the Fuji Five Lakes at only 0.5 square kilometers, but its surface is such a beautiful clear blue that during the Meiji period, it was touted overseas as the Switzerland of East Asia. Due to the frequently occurring upside down reflection of Mt. Fuji in its waters and the fact that Mt. Fuji appears to be embracing the smaller Mt. Omuro, the sight is sometimes call Fuji hugging its child. This scene makes the lake a popular spot for photographers.

Yamanashi Prefecture Minamitsuru-gun Fuji Kawaguchiko Town
Located at an elevation of 900 meters, Lake Saiko is one of the Fuji Five Lakes. At 2.12 square kilometers, it is not very large, but it is deep, about 72 meters, and its intensely blue surface has a mystic beauty. Whether it is azaleas in the spring, verdant greenery in the early summer, colored leaves in the fall, or soft rime in the winter, visitors can enjoy scenic beauty in every season, and the lake is a favorite spot for water activities. In 2010, kunimasu (local salmon), believed to live only Lake Tazawa in Akita Prefecture, were found in Lake Saiko for the first time in 70 years, a discovery that made news headlines.
