- Chiba Pref. Kamogawashi Futomihama 445
- Floating just off Kamogawa City’s Futomihama Beach, this 30,000 square meter island is found in the legends of Minamoto-no-Yoritomo and the priest Nichiren. They say it was once home to Hirano Niemon’s family, hence the name Niemonjima. It’s designated one of the prefecture’s Places of Scenic Beauty and one of New Japan’s Top 100 Sights. It’s decorated with haiku by a famous poet engraved in stone pillars, and is home to plants like the rare kinginharinasu, daffodils, hydrangea and more, which keep the island in bloom year round.
Chiba Areas
The Boso Peninsula forms the main body of Chiba prefecture, and this is where you’ll find its endless warm water beaches and jagged mountains. Further inland, Narita - most famous as the home of Narita Airport - is a secret haven of tradition and history in the form of centuries-old Shinshoji Temple and quaint wooden Edo buildings. Chiba prefecture is also home to both Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea.
