    Suigo Itako Iris Park is an area of approximately 1.3 hectares planted with a variety of iris flowers, opened in 1976. The best viewing time is usually around the 10th of June. It is also the venue of the Suigo Itako Iris Festival held from late-May to June. Visitors can also see the statues of the Itakogasa and Itako Bride.

    A park located in the center of the Port of Kashima, one of the largest artificially excavated ports in the world. At night from the top of the park's 52-meter tall observation tower, visitors can get a sweeping view of the glittering factories operating in the Kashima coastal industrial zone. On New Year's Day, the park is open from 6:00 a.m., and the sight of the first sunrise of the new year emerging from beyond the industrial zone is stirring.

    A Western confectionary shop easily identifiable by its white, Western-style building and cute triangular roof. The shop is situated along Prefectural Route 255 not far from Hirai Beach. The shop's signature item is obvious from the shop's name-Mont Blanc. The shop's roll cakes, choux cremes, and other baked sweets are also very popular. In addition, because of its location in the city home to the Kashima Antlers J1 League team, the shop sells a soccer ball-shaped cake perfect for giving as a present or for taking a picture to upload to an SNS. The shop has a restaurant which serves pastas, curry, and stewed Western-style dishes for lunch at reasonable prices.

    A long-standing Hitachi Aki soba noodle restaurant which has been in operation since the end of the Edo period. The restaurant is situated along Prefectural Route 5 between JR Itako Station and Inariyama Park. The restaurant's vaunted juwari soba noodles are made with only 100% buckwheat flour. The restaurant's soba is also notable for its strongly seasoned broth. Plus, the restaurant makes use of ultra-soft water specially ordered from Portugal to make its soba. Together, these measures maximize the unique flavor of the noodles. In addition to soba, the restaurant also offers curry, sashimi, and tempura specials. The menu also includes an abundant selection of local liquors and a la carte dishes, and this establishment is popular with locals, as well.

    潮来駅からは車で5分ちょっと、駐車場も結構停めれるそば屋さんです。 今回はオススメの天せいろをいただきました。打ちたての十割蕎麦が香りも良く美味しかった。 店内が吹き抜けなのも開放感があって良かったです。

The farm is open from late May to early November. On the farm's spacious grounds, visitors can pick melons in early summer, corn in mid-summer, and sweet potatoes in fall. The farm has a rest area able to accommodate large groups, ensuring visitors can take their time and enjoy the rural delights of farm life. The farm has been featured on TV and in magazines and other media.

Located near a river where traditional yomeiribune (bridal boats) can still be seen plying the waters, the brewery makes local sakes utilizing excellent water, excellent rice, and the refined skills of its chief brewer which have received high praise not only in Japan but around the world. The brewery actively participates in competitions and seeks to continually improve the quality of its products. The brewery also offers 30 to 40-minute long tours which give participants access to rarely seen aspects of the sake brewing process. The brewery also offers sake tasting and has a direct sales shop and welcomes visitors.

The restaurant also offers hearty ramen made with a broth containing over 10 varieties of fruits and vegetables slow stewed for hours to maintain the integrity of their individual flavors. In general, the restaurant's portions are large, and other menu selections include tanmen soup, a yakiniku barbecue Bimei pork set meal, and liver sauteed with Asian chives.

The shop's ""Hitachi Fudoki"" is a simple sweet which has even been presented to the Japanese Emperor made with plump, top quality adzuki beans from Hokkaido combined with mochi rice cake so soft, it melts in your mouth. Some of the shop's many other gorgeous confections include ""Kurogoma Daifuku"" rice cakes stuffed with a rich black sesame seed filling, and ""Junami Dango"" dumplings crafted according to a unique recipe using only 100% specially cultivated Koshihikari rice from Kashima."

It is said that ""Joshu Ushibori,"" one of the famous ""36 Views of Mt. Fuji"" woodblock print series by Hokusai, was created here."

    A Shinto shrine dedicated to Onamuchi-no-mikoto and Sukunabikona-no-mikoto located in Itako City, Ibaraki Prefecture. Records state the shrine was founded in the distant Nanboku-cho period (1336-1392). The shrine's annual festival is held on November 23. As part of the festival, the Uwado-no-Shishimai lion dance, a designated Prefectural Cultural Property, is performed to pray for bountiful harvests. The three lion masks used in the performance are believed to have been donated to the shrine in 1395. The performance consists of an intense dance by a male lion, a graceful dance by a female lion, and a dance which combines elements of the former two by a neuter lion, plus dances by a tengu goblin and okame homely woman.

    "This tour, a local sightseeing staple, is situated seven minutes from the Itako interchange on the Higashi-Kanto Expressway. Tour-goers board a small boat and visit beautiful area bridges via a canal system. The canals, which span a section of the rice paddies sandwiched between the Tone River and the Hitachitone River are called ""enma,"" and the canal in the Katozu area is known for the simple, narrow bridges which span it, connecting house to house. The tour's small ""sappa-bune"" boats visit and travel under the 12 remaining bridges in the area. The tour leaves from Suigo Sawara Ayame Park, a park where various irises bloom and which bustles with visitors from late spring through summer."

  • Sanmaizuka Tumulus

    This kofun (ancient burial mound) is located on the side of National Route 355 in Okisu, Namegata City. The 85-meter-long keyhole-shaped tumulus is estimated to have been built in the late 5th century. Three archeological surveys of the site have been conducted since 1955. The items excavated in these surveys have been designated as a National Important Cultural Property. The surrounding area has been developed into Sanmaizuka Kofun Noson Park.

    This bronze statue is located inside Shikatsume Park, in 2-chome, Miyashita, Kashima City. It was erected in commemoration of the 500anniversary of the swordsman, Tsukahara Bokuden, who was born in Kashima, in the Hitachi Province (now known as Kashima City), and played an important part during the Warring States period. There is also a monument to Kashima Jingu, one of the top 100 scenic spots of Kashima.

They offer tempura made with seasonal ingredients such as seafood harvested off the Kashima coast and vegetables grown in the prefecture. At the counter you can dine on a freshly fried tempura course with items selected by the chef or of your own preference. For lunch you can get a gozen Japanese style set meal with tempura and sashimi, regular meal sets, or tempura on rice. They also have bento boxed lunches that change daily.

    調理人の年齢によるのか?飯が柔らか過ぎて気持ち悪い。おまけのつもりなのか、2度訪ねて都度盛り込まれた「鯵」の天ぷら。鮮度が落ちていて…臭い。 定食は色々盛り沢山で、見た目は楽しいが 残念。
