  • Lake Inawashiro

    This massive lake at almost the direct center of Fukushima Prefecture is Japan’s fourth largest in area. It boasts a long history, being used for farm irrigation from the Edo period, and it is spoken of in Kobo Daishi’s Legends of Okinajima. Mt. Bandai stretches to the north, and it is surrounded by beautiful natural scenery including Oshika-zakura cherry and Tatsusawa Virgin Forest, Natural Monuments. There are rental bicycles available at Inawashiro Station and Roadside Station Inawashiro, so you can ride through the beauty of Lake Inawashiro through all four seasons.
  • Goshikinuma Lakes

    The Goshikinuma (five-colors) lake group consists of dozens of large and small lakes, such as the Bishamon-numa, the Akanuma, and the Rurinuma. The water color of each lake varies according to the size of the particles in the water. The emerald green or cobalt blue shining water surface is mysteriously beautiful. It takes an hour and a half to stroll along the walking path.
  • Lake Hibara

    Lake Hibara is the largest lake in the Urabandai area. It has a circumference of 32 kilometers and a maximum depth of 31 meters. The beautiful blue waters offer a gentle surface, and there are sightseeing cruises, campgrounds and walking trails to better enjoy the area. In winter, you can go ice fishing for Japanese pond smelt, so there’s something all year round.
  • Lake Numazawa

    A lake in Kaneyama Town, Onuma County. It is a double caldera lake formed nearly 5600 years ago and its circumference is nearly 7 kilometers. It's surrounded by natural forests filled with wild birds and the lake shore has campsites, parks, and hiking trails. The lake is also home to kokanee salmon and you can enjoy fishing during fishing season. The Lake Numazawa Water Festival is held every August.
  • Oguninuma Marshland

    A lake in Kitashiobara Village, Yama County. It's a caldera like that was formed by volcanic activity nearly 500,000 years ago. The lake sits at an altitude of 1000 meters and the Oguninuma marshland that surrounds the lake has been designated the Oguninuma Marshland Botanical Area, a Japanese Natural Monument. The area is filled with an abundance of nature and in late June a large number of Nikko day lilies come into bloom.
  • Lake Hatori

    A lake located in Tenei Village, Iwase County, Fukushima Prefecture. The lake was created by the construction of Hatori Dam, turning the Shirakawa Basin into a giant water jug, and is the largest reservoir in Japan created by an earth dam. In autumn, visitors to the area can enjoy fall foliage, while in winter the surface of the lake freezes over. The area around the dam has been developed as a resort district, and many visitors come here to enjoy the campgrounds, ski resorts, golf resorts, and other leisure facilities.
  • Lake Tagokura

    An artificial lake created by the construction of Tagokura Dam located on the Tadami River in Tadami Town, Minamiaizu County, Fukushima Prefecture. Famous for its char fishing, many fishing lovers come here to enjoy this freshwater fish treasure trove. A paid sightseeing boat, the Blue Lake, also plies the waters. In fall, the autumn foliage of the area reflects beautifully off the surface of the lake, and many tourists visit here to enjoy the sight.
  • Oze Marshland

    A wetlands area located 1,660 meters above sea level in Oze National Park straddling Hinoemata Village, Minamiaizu County, Fukushima Prefecture and Katashina Village, Tone County, Gunma Prefecture. The area is renowned as the biggest mountain wetlands in Japan. Many visitors come here to walk the marshlands and enjoy area flowers when in season such as Asian skunk cabbages around May and Nikko day lilies around July.
  • Lake Akimoto

    A lake located in Bandai-Asahi National Park, a park which spans Kitashiobara Village and Inawashiro Town in Yama County, Fukushima Prefecture. The lake is also known as one of the Three Lakes of Urabandai. Bass fishing is popular here, and the lake has also become a renowned destination for Japanese pond smelt fishing in winter. Finally, the lake is a popular location to take photos, and during the fall foliage season, many amateur photography lovers come here to take pictures of the area just as the sun is rising in the morning.

    A wetlands area in Bandai-Asahi National Park in Kitashiobara Village, Yama County , Fukushima Prefecture. This is the largest marsh of the Goshiki-numa, the Five Colored Marshes. Visitors to the area can enjoy the picturesque, seasonal scenery created by the emerald green waters and Mt. Bandai. The popular Goshiki-numa Nature Trail hiking course is popular and travelled by large numbers of visitors during the fall foliage season.
