    Miyagi Kurokawa-gun Ohiramura Ohira Tairabayashi 39-12
    This museum is located inside Showa Manyo Forest in Tairabayashi, Ohira, Ohira Village, Kurokawa County. It possesses a collection of 270 works by the painter Kanno , who hails from the village, as well as 150 of his sketches, art supplies, and other materials. In addition to the permanent exhibit of Kanno’s works, the museum also exhibits his personal ffects in a recreation of his studio.

    万葉茶屋というお食事処と駐車場の近くにあるこじんまりとした施設です。普段は有料のようなのですが、1階のみの見学しかできなかったので無料で見学できました。

    Take a left at the Aqua Gate Exit of Hon-Shiogama Station on the JR Senseki Line and head towards Minato-machi along Kaigan-dori Street. This shop stubbornly continues to make and sell Sasa kamaboko steamed fish paste using the same traditional recipe and methods since it first opened its doors here in the birthplace of Sasa kamaboko. Visitors can take a guided tour of the production factory and then enjoy fresh cooked kamaboko. The Sasa kamaboko grilling experience is also popular and allows you to grill and eat Sasa kamaboko (reservation required at least one week in advance). The shop's restaurant serves the kind of dishes you can only enjoy in Japan's top fresh tuna port, such as seafood rice bowls topped with fresh seafood and tuna delivered straight from Shiogama Port.

    お土産に武田の笹かまぼこをもらったことがあって、とてもおいしかったので、お店に連れて行ってもらいました。出来立ての笹かまぼこはアツアツでおいしかった。

Tours leave a five minute walk from Matsushima-Kaigan Station on the JR Senseki Line. The standard Matsushima Bay excursion course leaves from Matsushima's Chuo Pier and goes on a short, 50 minute trip among the island's in Matsushima Bay, giving riders the chance to experience up close the power of the naturally formed islands. Also recommended is the Ranran Plan, which includes a boat tour; a visit to the Kanrantei tea room, which belonged to Matsushima-loving samurai lord Date Masamune; a matcha powdered green tea experience; and handmade Sasa kamaboko steamed fish paste making experience. There are also a variety of seasonal event cruises such as fireworks show cruises in summer and wintertime oyster hotpot cruises.

    This is a highland in Sakuragaokairi, Matsushima Town, Miyagi County. Along with Otakamori, Mt. Tamon, and Mt. Tomiyama in Matsushima Town, it is one of the four prime spots for viewing the rocky islands of Matsushima, long considered one of Japan’s great beauty spots. The site got its name (“fan valley”) from the view of fan-shaped Matsushima Bay.

    This restaurant serves up cuisine made with seafood taken from the coastline of Miyagi Prefecture. The menu features items with seasonal ingredients such as oysters cultivated in Matsushima as well as the Matsushima anago (conger eel) rice bowl and the Sanriku mekabu (thick wakame seaweed leaves) rice bowl. The restaurant takes pride not only in the quality of its ingredients but in its cooking, customer service and atmosphere. The second-floor seating areas affords beautiful views of Matsuhima Bay.

    A 10 minute drive from the Rifu Shiogama and Rifu-naka interchanges on the Sanriku Expressway. Adjoining the brewery which makes Urakasumi, one of Miyagi's top local sakes, this gallery serves as a space for providing information on a variety of sakes as well as on Shiogama. Dedicated to providing on Japan's culture of sake which gave birth to Urakasumi, the facility displays and sells exclusive products such as drinking vessels and sakes you can only purchase and taste locally. At the sake tasting counter, you can purchase an original sake cup which allows you to sample various sakes. The lineup of sakes changes monthly and you can bring your cup home as a souvenir.

    A sightseeing pleasure cruise from which boarders can view the beauty of the islands of Matsushima, considered one of the three most beautiful scenic areas in Japan. The boat leaves a seven minute walk from Matsushima-Kaigan Station on the JR Senseki Line. Particularly recommended is the 50 minute one way Basho Course connecting Shiogama and Matsushima, which serves as a means of transportation while also enabling visitors to view major islands in the bay like Nio Island and Senganjima Island, whose picturesque scenery inspired the great haiku poet Matsuo Basho. As the boat is able to travel in shallow waters just two meters deep, it can get quite close to the islands, giving riders the chance to see their beauty up close. There are four other courses, including one which goes on a round trip tour of the bay's islands.

    A five minute walk from Kokufu-Tagajo Station. This iris garden, located at the site of the Taga Castle Ruins, one of Japan's top three historic ruins, contains some three million iris plants inside its 21 thousand square meter grounds. Spanning 800 varieties, in addition to regular irises, visitors can view Japanese irises and rabbitear irises. The Taga Castle Ruins Iris Festival is held here from mid- to late June, and during this time a variety of events are held such as contests and food fairs on weekends, flower pressing classes and iris-themed haiku poetry meets. In addition, for just two days during the festival, the garden is lit up at night.

    A leisure spot and symbol of the city, this park is situated on the western side of Tomiya City. The park has an 800 meter long outdoor obstacle course whose 17 obstacles whose names are derived from local locations. The Kamekamekan park building can be used as a place to take a break; when you're inside, look up and you'll see the roof is in the shape of a hexagon. Climb the 138 steps of the park's observatory and you can enjoy a panoramic, 360 degree view of the area from 138 meters above sea level. A place filled with things for families with children to have fun together, other facilities include a campground and children's sledding slope in winter.

    These ruins are situated just a 15-minute walk from the Kokufu-Tagajo Station on the JR Tohoku Main Line. This was the center of government for the Tohoku region of Japan during the Nara-Heian Era. Along with the former Heijoykyo ruins in Nara Prefecture, the Dazaifu ruins in Fukuoka Prefecture, this historic landmark is one of the nationally designated three great historic sites in Japan. The Taga Castle government offices, formerly the heart of the Taga Castle, are the site of important administration and ritual rites. The cherry blooming in the spring at these ruins is a beautiful site to see, and is a little known spot for cherry blossom viewing. The two ancient trees in the center of the ruins in front of the main temple are so artistic and bring a sense of tranquility to this site.

It serves sushi made with seasonal seafood from the Sanriku Coast and sushi rice made with Sasanishiki rice grown by a contracted farmer. Offerings include the Oyakata Omakase Nigiri, which features a selection of chef’s choice nigiri sushi, as well as the Shiogama maguro-zukushi, which features an assortment of tuna sushi. Guests can also enjoy dishes such as the restaurant’s famous grilled Matsushima Bay conger eel paired with local sakes of Miyagi.

    This historical exhibit is located inside of the Ichibankan on National Route 45 in Moto-machi, Shiogama City. The exhibit is attached to the city library. Visitors can learn about the history of Shiogama from a number of historical artifacts and other exhibits dating from the Jomon period to modern times.

It sells a variety of kamaboko made by skilled craftsman using high-quality surimi (minced fish paste), including their Ginsenzasa, which is made in part with wild-caught red sea bream. Visitors can also try roasting a sasa kamaboko by hand (no reservation required).

    This Japanese confection shop is located in Matsushima Chonai, Matsushima Town, Miyagi County. It makes and sells Matsushima Koren rice crackers, which are said to have first been made by a nun from Matsushima’s Kannon-do Temple known as “Korenni” using rice offered to the temple as a form of charity. The technique for making this famous additive-free confection has been passed down to a single successor for 23 generations over 700 years. In addition to versions flavored with caster sugar and Wasonbon sugar, there is also a version flavored with healthier reduced maltose sugar.
