Korenya Shingetsuan
This Japanese confection shop is located in Matsushima Chonai, Matsushima Town, Miyagi County. It makes and sells Matsushima Koren rice crackers, which are said to have first been made by a nun from Matsushima’s Kannon-do Temple known as “Korenni” using rice offered to the temple as a form of charity. The technique for making this famous additive-free confection has been passed down to a single successor for 23 generations over 700 years. In addition to versions flavored with caster sugar and Wasonbon sugar, there is also a version flavored with healthier reduced maltose sugar.
