This valley is said to be one of the most picturesque destinations on the Shimokita Peninsula. Following the Kawauchi River, the valley has been outfitted with a 4.4 kilometer long walking path and visitors can enjoy fresh verdure in spring and summer as well as fall foliage in autumn. The walking path cross the Ajisai Bridge (a suspension bridge), Sekirei Bridge (an arch bridge), and Asunaro Bridge (a cable-stayed bridge). There are many observatory points along the path, as well, making it a great destination to enjoy a leisurely scenic hike.

Centuries-old stories of samurai at Kakunodate and the remains of millennia-old archaeological sites including the likes of Isedotai invite history buffs to delve into Aomori’s fascinating history. As the most northern prefecture on the Japanese mainland, Aomori enjoys a cooler climate, which makes it a welcome escape from the southern cities for combining castles, art galleries, and summer festivals with the great outdoors.
