    Hokkaido Sapporoshi Chuou-ku Miyanomori 1274
The Okurayama Jump Stadium hosted the Sapporo Winter Olympic in 1972 and many other international competitions. You can go to the viewing lounge in a two-person ski lift, and in five minutes see Sapporo City and the steep slope courses up close, which is quite fun. It is located about 30 minutes by car from Sapporo Station.

  • Hokkaido University Ginkgo Avenue
    Travel / Tourism
    Hokkaido Sapporo city Kita-ku 13-Jyunanishi 5 - West 7 Hokkaido University
Approximately a five-minute walk from Kitajunijo Station on the subway Namboku Line, this popular site for yellow leaves is located on Kita-Jusanjo Street inside Hokkaido University. There are 70 ginkgo trees that line both ends of the street that stretches for around 380 meters from east to west, and they are dyed a brilliant yellow from late October to the beginning of November. Because many tourists visit during this time, there are times when the street is closed to vehicular traffic to ensure safety. The Hokkaido University Golden-leaf Festival is held on the last weekend of October, and besides stalls, the street is illuminated from six to nine in the evening.
  • Moerenuma Park, Forest of Cherry Trees

    Hokkaido Sapporo-shi Higashi-ku Moerenumakoen 1-1
"This art park in Moerenuma Park was created as a base for the ""Circular Greenbelt Concept"", intended to encircle the City of Sapporo with parks and greenery. The park was created on the design of Isamu Noguchi, a world-renowned sculptor, based on the concept of ""the whole being a single sculpture"". There are about 1,900 cherry trees, mostly sargent cherries, and the park is a popular spot for cherry blossoms in Sapporo in the spring. There are seven playground equipment areas hidden in the cherry blossoms, and all of them are designed by Isamu Noguchi."

This monument is the symbol of Moerenuma Park. The glass that reflects the appearance of the outdoor environment is impressive, and shows the beauty of green grass field under the blue sky in summer, or snow-covered fields in the winter.
  • Sea Fountain

    Hokkaido Sapporo-shi Higashi-ku Moerenumakoen 1-1
"This is a fountain in the center of Moerenuma Park, a dynamic ""water sculpture"" that spouts up to 25 meters high. There is a 40-minute long program and a 15-minute short program, which are operated three to four times a day. It is illuminated at night and you can enjoy a wondrous view differing from the daytime."
  • Moere Beach

    Hokkaido Sapporo-shi Higashi-ku Moerenumakoen 1-1
This water playground in Moerenuma Park was designed by Isamu Noguchi, a world-famous sculptor. The park, 2000 square meters in size, is created on an image of the seaside. Enjoy a relaxing stroll on the promenade centered around the gently sloping bowl-shaped site. Many people put up beach tents and relax. The water that springs from the center of the pond creates a beautiful rippling effect and extends to the edge paved with coral. Even the deepest part at the center is only 45-centimeters deep, so small children are able to play safely.

Hokkaido Areas

around-area-map

Not just a prefecture but an island of its own, Hokkaido is the most northerly prefecture and island of the Japanese archipelago. Arriving in Hokkaido, which is rural and bursting with breathtaking nature, means entering a world where vast national parks, towering mountains, and natural hot springs can be found at every turn. Come December, these natural splendors freeze over and morph into a winter wonderland.
